RUSH TRANSCRIPT A new ░░░░░░░░ reveals American patriotism is ░░░░░░░░ an All Time Low ░░░░░░░░ 38 of adults say ░░░░░░░░ they were extremely proud ░░░░░░░░ be American That s ░░░░░░░░ lowest rate ever reported ░░░░░░░░ gal up which started ░░░░░░░░ the question in 2021 ░░░░░░░░ average has been about ░░░░░░░░ Republicans dropped from 75 ░░░░░░░░ 2019 to 58 today ░░░░░░░░ down to 34 Democrats ░░░░░░░░ 26 That s up ░░░░░░░░ points from 2019 Now ░░░░░░░░ polling was conducted after ░░░░░░░░ shootings in Buffalo and ░░░░░░░░ but before the Dobbs ░░░░░░░░ overturning Roe v Wade ░░░░░░░░ zeller is historian and ░░░░░░░░ at Princeton university Good ░░░░░░░░ see you again The ░░░░░░░░ point in more than ░░░░░░░░ years Is there any ░░░░░░░░ indication of why patriotism ░░░░░░░░ so low My guess ░░░░░░░░ it reflects different things ░░░░░░░░ of it could be ░░░░░░░░ It could be a ░░░░░░░░ of Republicans and independents ░░░░░░░░ unhappy with the administration ░░░░░░░░ of it is broader ░░░░░░░░ the economy it s ░░░░░░░░ There are problems with ░░░░░░░░ our democracy works right ░░░░░░░░ from intense polarization to ░░░░░░░░ happened after the 2020 ░░░░░░░░ And there are some ░░░░░░░░ m sure who feel ░░░░░░░░ the government is not ░░░░░░░░ everything that it can ░░░░░░░░ broaden how many people ░░░░░░░░ participate in politics and ░░░░░░░░ the issues of our ░░░░░░░░ So you put all ░░░░░░░░ that together in a ░░░░░░░░ it s not so ░░░░░░░░ to see these numbers ░░░░░░░░ find it so troubling ░░░░░░░░ mean our country has ░░░░░░░░ through tougher times You ░░░░░░░░ we ve gone through ░░░░░░░░ wars We ve gone ░░░░░░░░ political assassinations Civil War ░░░░░░░░ know we ve been ░░░░░░░░ tougher times than this ░░░░░░░░ I m not saying ░░░░░░░░ these are easier times ░░░░░░░░ everyone but maybe patriotism ░░░░░░░░ help I mean is ░░░░░░░░ any historical parallel to ░░░░░░░░ patriotism was really high ░░░░░░░░ was happening or when ░░░░░░░░ was really low Sure ░░░░░░░░ when we got out ░░░░░░░░ World War II and ░░░░░░░░ war finally ends in ░░░░░░░░ late 40s and 50s ░░░░░░░░ s really a high ░░░░░░░░ for American patriotism Some ░░░░░░░░ this was connected to ░░░░░░░░ Cold War And the ░░░░░░░░ that that grew And ░░░░░░░░ also was a reflection ░░░░░░░░ how people saw leadership ░░░░░░░░ franklin roosevelt loomed large ░░░░░░░░ this country What he ░░░░░░░░ in getting the country ░░░░░░░░ thet of the depress ░░░░░░░░ fighting totalitarianism it made ░░░░░░░░ feel positive about the ░░░░░░░░ as did economic growth ░░░░░░░░ we have gone through ░░░░░░░░ of depression and war ░░░░░░░░ we are able to ░░░░░░░░ out feeling differently about ░░░░░░░░ country as a whole ░░░░░░░░ is a remarkable age ░░░░░░░░ here as it relates ░░░░░░░░ people who say they ░░░░░░░░ either extremely or very ░░░░░░░░ of their country I ░░░░░░░░ t know what the ░░░░░░░░ is between being extremely ░░░░░░░░ and very proud but ░░░░░░░░ is one apparently 55 ░░░░░░░░ older 80 say they ░░░░░░░░ either extremely or very ░░░░░░░░ 35 to 44 64 ░░░░░░░░ those 18 to 34 ░░░░░░░░ than half at 48 ░░░░░░░░ just wonder is there ░░░░░░░░ nostalgic about patriotism that ░░░░░░░░ would see old every ░░░░░░░░ who would say yes ░░░░░░░░ m very extremely proud ░░░░░░░░ there s some nostalgia ░░░░░░░░ older Americans but there ░░░░░░░░ also some reality for ░░░░░░░░ Americans the people I ░░░░░░░░ in the classroom You ░░░░░░░░ these are generations who ░░░░░░░░ lived through gun shootings ░░░░░░░░ a regular thing They ░░░░░░░░ through an incredibly polarized ░░░░░░░░ often dysfunctional political system ░░░░░░░░ doesn t deal with ░░░░░░░░ problems they care about ░░░░░░░░ climate change so it ░░░░░░░░ not surprising when you ░░░░░░░░ asking them how do ░░░░░░░░ see the country they ░░░░░░░░ not overly enthused They ░░░░░░░░ also lived through a ░░░░░░░░ where our systems failed ░░░░░░░░ so I understand it ░░░░░░░░ not simply the nostalgia ░░░░░░░░ older Americans it s ░░░░░░░░ realistic look at what ░░░░░░░░ around them from the ░░░░░░░░ generations and why we ░░░░░░░░ to do better as ░░░░░░░░ nation to boost how ░░░░░░░░ feel about this democracy ░░░░░░░░ mean there s so ░░░░░░░░ that peel people feel ░░░░░░░░ can t control you ░░░░░░░░ control your feelings about ░░░░░░░░ and the hope for ░░░░░░░░ country doing better You ░░░░░░░░ in control of that ░░░░░░░░ of positivity and trying ░░░░░░░░ harness that Is there ░░░░░░░░ way to bring back ░░░░░░░░ without a war Sure ░░░░░░░░ the social movements of ░░░░░░░░ 1960s were often very ░░░░░░░░ I often think of ░░░░░░░░ Luther King standing in ░░░░░░░░ of the Lincoln memorial ░░░░░░░░ the racial legacy of ░░░░░░░░ country and the way ░░░░░░░░ worked but calling on ░░░░░░░░ country to live up ░░░░░░░░ its best ideals I ░░░░░░░░ movements often can achieve ░░░░░░░░ goal as can repairing ░░░░░░░░ problems we have Right ░░░░░░░░ with the January 6th ░░░░░░░░ we are seeing some ░░░░░░░░ the fundamentals that exist ░░░░░░░░ our election system and ░░░░░░░░ our democracy stronger more ░░░░░░░░ and robust is another ░░░░░░░░ without war to achieve ░░░░░░░░ sentiment that this country ░░░░░░░░ be great and is ░░░░░░░░ well.
