Pressley: The Crown Act Isn’t Just About Hair, It’s About White Supremacy

PRESSLEY As black women ░░░░░░░░ single thing about us ░░░░░░░░ politicized and criminalized Right ░░░░░░░░ we were having this ░░░░░░░░ about black hair and ░░░░░░░░ know everyone keep saying ░░░░░░░░ we re in the ░░░░░░░░ of a national reckoning ░░░░░░░░ know I m still ░░░░░░░░ for that I think ░░░░░░░░ what I think is ░░░░░░░░ accurate is to say ░░░░░░░░ we ve been in ░░░░░░░░ midst of an awakening ░░░░░░░░ the reckoning for me ░░░░░░░░ be when we codify ░░░░░░░░ value of black lives ░░░░░░░░ our budgets and in ░░░░░░░░ policies And so you ░░░░░░░░ we recently passed the ░░░░░░░░ Act this is banning ░░░░░░░░ based Applause Those applause ░░░░░░░░ for the fact that ░░░░░░░░ was able to keep ░░░░░░░░ composure Laughter for the ░░░░░░░░ offensive things that were ░░░░░░░░ One person across the ░░░░░░░░ referred to this as ░░░░░░░░ Bad Hair Bill which ░░░░░░░░ much makes the case ░░░░░░░░ the very think that ░░░░░░░░ re talking about So ░░░░░░░░ thing is that people ░░░░░░░░ it wrong when they ░░░░░░░░ that the Crown Act ░░░░░░░░ just about her The ░░░░░░░░ Act is about white ░░░░░░░░ How I show up ░░░░░░░░ the world is disruptive ░░░░░░░░ and of itself 7 ░░░░░░░░ people living with alopecia ░░░░░░░░ black women I have ░░░░░░░░ totalis and you know ░░░░░░░░ thank God for my ░░░░░░░░ who in the midst ░░░░░░░░ that all that loss ░░░░░░░░ me that I don ░░░░░░░░ need hair to rock ░░░░░░░░ crown.”
