RUSH TRANSCRIPT The January ░░░░░░░░ committee took its long ░░░░░░░░ case public this week ░░░░░░░░ presented during the initial ░░░░░░░░ hour hearing jolting viewers ░░░░░░░░ to the violent day ░░░░░░░░ making clear the committee ░░░░░░░░ former President Trump responsible ░░░░░░░░ Trump invested millions of ░░░░░░░░ of campaign funds purposely ░░░░░░░░ false information running ads ░░░░░░░░ knew were false and ░░░░░░░░ millions of Americans that ░░░░░░░░ election was corrupt and ░░░░░░░░ he was the true ░░░░░░░░ As you will see ░░░░░░░░ misinformation campaign provoked the ░░░░░░░░ on January 6th Here ░░░░░░░░ to discuss CNN political ░░░░░░░░ and professor of history ░░░░░░░░ public affairs at Princeton ░░░░░░░░ Zelizer And CNN senior ░░░░░░░░ analyst and senior editor ░░░░░░░░ the Atlantic Ron Brownstein ░░░░░░░░ to you both gentlemen ░░░░░░░░ earlier this week you ░░░░░░░░ a piece on CNN ░░░░░░░░ that the hearings are ░░░░░░░░ to change most Republicans ░░░░░░░░ about the events of ░░░░░░░░ 6th I m sure ░░░░░░░░ doesn t help that ░░░░░░░░ have the likes of ░░░░░░░░ News who didn t ░░░░░░░░ air the hearings live ░░░░░░░░ had their hosts talking ░░░░░░░░ these live feeds Do ░░░░░░░░ still feel that way ░░░░░░░░ As powerful as the ░░░░░░░░ day of hearings was ░░░░░░░░ I m sure more ░░░░░░░░ to come it s ░░░░░░░░ unlikely that the Republican ░░░░░░░░ which lived through many ░░░░░░░░ to the political system ░░░░░░░░ the Trump presidency is ░░░░░░░░ to change its position ░░░░░░░░ of the findings And ░░░░░░░░ you re saying added ░░░░░░░░ that is the spin ░░░░░░░░ kind of information you ░░░░░░░░ getting from conservative media ░░░░░░░░ would only strengthen those ░░░░░░░░ So in many ways ░░░░░░░░ Republican Party I think ░░░░░░░░ just double down and ░░░░░░░░ with election denialism even ░░░░░░░░ the hearings continue to ░░░░░░░░ very dramatic and shocking ░░░░░░░░ Look we still don ░░░░░░░░ know what the potential ░░░░░░░░ consequences or political consequences ░░░░░░░░ be since there are ░░░░░░░░ more hearings that we ░░░░░░░░ be seeing over the ░░░░░░░░ couple of weeks But ░░░░░░░░ Democrats are hoping that ░░░░░░░░ hearings will boost turnout ░░░░░░░░ them at the polls ░░░░░░░░ this year s midterms ░░░░░░░░ you think that is ░░░░░░░░ especially considering all that ░░░░░░░░ going on with inflation ░░░░░░░░ all these supply shortages ░░░░░░░░ we re facing Yeah ░░░░░░░░ first of all I ░░░░░░░░ less fatalistic about this ░░░░░░░░ no impact on the ░░░░░░░░ During Watergate Richard Nixon ░░░░░░░░ ratings went from 90 ░░░░░░░░ Gallup to 50 the ░░░░░░░░ he designed Obviously that ░░░░░░░░ not going to happen ░░░░░░░░ s not because of ░░░░░░░░ media rebutting it but ░░░░░░░░ because Republican election officials ░░░░░░░░ those dismayed by what ░░░░░░░░ happened are not standing ░░░░░░░░ and saying this is ░░░░░░░░ other than kinzinger and ░░░░░░░░ It s a circular ░░░░░░░░ Republican elected officials says ░░░░░░░░ can t say this ░░░░░░░░ wrong because the base ░░░░░░░░ turn on us One ░░░░░░░░ the reasons the base ░░░░░░░░ unmoving in their refusal ░░░░░░░░ acknowledge what happened is ░░░░░░░░ officials they trust are ░░░░░░░░ them other cues Look ░░░░░░░░ this change turnout on ░░░░░░░░ margins in 2022 Sure ░░░░░░░░ think it was over ░░░░░░░░ million separate Americans came ░░░░░░░░ to vote against Trump ░░░░░░░░ either the 16 18 ░░░░░░░░ 20 elections This is ░░░░░░░░ reminder of all the ░░░░░░░░ those voters saw Having ░░░░░░░░ that this is more ░░░░░░░░ an issue for 24 ░░░░░░░░ 22 As you point ░░░░░░░░ inflation and gas prices ░░░░░░░░ overwhelming everything else I ░░░░░░░░ this will be more ░░░░░░░░ when the question comes ░░░░░░░░ 24 about whether the ░░░░░░░░ want Trump or someone ░░░░░░░░ is attack on the ░░░░░░░░ The committee is reframing ░░░░░░░░ and portraying the attack ░░░░░░░░ the Capitol as just ░░░░░░░░ component of a much ░░░░░░░░ attack on democracy this ░░░░░░░░ multimonth multipronged effort to ░░░░░░░░ the election of the ░░░░░░░░ The success or failure ░░░░░░░░ the committee will depend ░░░░░░░░ the committee s ability ░░░░░░░░ look to operationalize Trump ░░░░░░░░ lies about the election ░░░░░░░░ it harder to vote ░░░░░░░░ increasing partisan opportunities to ░░░░░░░░ the vote There is ░░░░░░░░ ongoing challenge here I ░░░░░░░░ that is what the ░░░░░░░░ is
