Northam: Virginians Using ‘Critical Race Theory’ as a ‘Dog Whistle’

NORTHAM Jonathan thanks so ░░░░░░░░ for having me CAPEHART ░░░░░░░░ thanks again for being ░░░░░░░░ So you leave office ░░░░░░░░ January 15th You re ░░░░░░░░ office with last I ░░░░░░░░ the state have a ░░░░░░░░ surplus the unemployment rate ░░░░░░░░ below The National average ░░░░░░░░ the budget had a ░░░░░░░░ So why do you ░░░░░░░░ Virginia voters opted to ░░░░░░░░ with someone who s ░░░░░░░░ complete political opposite to ░░░░░░░░ the state NORTHAM You ░░░░░░░░ Jonathan I think what ░░░░░░░░ ve proven over the ░░░░░░░░ four years is that ░░░░░░░░ can have a very ░░░░░░░░ commonwealth a state that ░░░░░░░░ diversity a state that ░░░░░░░░ care of its workers ░░░░░░░░ state that s welcoming ░░░░░░░░ inclusive and at the ░░░░░░░░ time have a robust ░░░░░░░░ As you said our ░░░░░░░░ is 2 6 billion ░░░░░░░░ the last three years ░░░░░░░░ has been named the ░░░░░░░░ one state in the ░░░░░░░░ in which to do ░░░░░░░░ in And I really ░░░░░░░░ t think we talked ░░░░░░░░ what we ve done ░░░░░░░░ Democrats enough over the ░░░░░░░░ four years The election ░░░░░░░░ nationalized it was a ░░░░░░░░ of emphasis on the ░░░░░░░░ president And I think ░░░░░░░░ should ve done a ░░░░░░░░ job talking about our ░░░░░░░░ CAPEHART I hear what ░░░░░░░░ re saying on that ░░░░░░░░ But to your point ░░░░░░░░ saying that under your ░░░░░░░░ you embraced diversity and ░░░░░░░░ a lot of the ░░░░░░░░ of that campaign was ░░░░░░░░ local school board meetings ░░░░░░░░ centered around quote unquote ░░░░░░░░ Race Theory and whether ░░░░░░░░ was being taught in ░░░░░░░░ schools And that s ░░░░░░░░ governor elect Youngkin ran ░░░░░░░░ and possibly won on ░░░░░░░░ what does that say ░░░░░░░░ the commonwealth NORTHAM Well ░░░░░░░░ couple things It says ░░░░░░░░ a Critical Race Theory ░░░░░░░░ nothing more than a ░░░░░░░░ whistle We don t ░░░░░░░░ Critical Race Theory It ░░░░░░░░ not a part of ░░░░░░░░ curriculum in k 12 ░░░░░░░░ What it also says ░░░░░░░░ perhaps more importantly is ░░░░░░░░ anger and fear are ░░░░░░░░ strong emotions and I ░░░░░░░░ their campaign was a ░░░░░░░░ based on that was ░░░░░░░░ there provoking fear and ░░░░░░░░ in people and they ░░░░░░░░ to it And the ░░░░░░░░ is history But that ░░░░░░░░ not a good direction ░░░░░░░░ Virginia to go in ░░░░░░░░ s not a good ░░░░░░░░ for this country to ░░░░░░░░ in And I think ░░░░░░░░ have to start with ░░░░░░░░ facts And we may ░░░░░░░░ able to disagree but ░░░░░░░░ s at least deal ░░░░░░░░ facts and then go ░░░░░░░░ there But Critical Race ░░░░░░░░ is a dog whistle ░░░░░░░░ it s not being ░░░░░░░░ in our schools.”
