░░░░░░░░ example Harvard accepts 35 ░░░░░░░░ Harvard student body they ░░░░░░░░ from private cools While ░░░░░░░░ 10 of American students ░░░░░░░░ to private schools You ░░░░░░░░ look at Harvard s ░░░░░░░░ of northeastern students which ░░░░░░░░ 40 of Harvard s ░░░░░░░░ but only 17 of ░░░░░░░░ lives in the northeast ░░░░░░░░ are all advantages that ░░░░░░░░ students will also benefit ░░░░░░░░ advocate for them You ░░░░░░░░ here to advocate for ░░░░░░░░ on the basis on ░░░░░░░░ I m not saying ░░░░░░░░ is the only criterion ░░░░░░░░ into account by Harvard ░░░░░░░░ admissions You can t ░░░░░░░░ me that a kid ░░░░░░░░ has to score 540 ░░░░░░░░ higher because of his ░░░░░░░░ is not being discriminated ░░░░░░░░ Again why is that ░░░░░░░░ CHEN Well I think ░░░░░░░░ a lot to a ░░░░░░░░ s life experience I ░░░░░░░░ you know a student ░░░░░░░░ my community college who ░░░░░░░░ to worry about whether ░░░░░░░░ not his parents are ░░░░░░░░ to be deported because ░░░░░░░░ came from Mexico has ░░░░░░░░ significantly different experience than ░░░░░░░░ white student who doesn ░░░░░░░░ have those worries African ░░░░░░░░ students who has to ░░░░░░░░ about whether or not ░░░░░░░░ he going communities And ░░░░░░░░ action actually will help ░░░░░░░░ Affirmative action does benefit ░░░░░░░░ American communities If recognizes ░░░░░░░░ the Asian American experience ░░░░░░░░ not all the same would he do ░░░░░░░░ He does that because ░░░░░░░░ don t want too ░░░░░░░░ Asians You know this ░░░░░░░░ well Yet you ever ░░░░░░░░ it I don t ░░░░░░░░ that at all They ░░░░░░░░ discriminating against Asians they ░░░░░░░░ open about it everybody ░░░░░░░░ it And yet that ░░░░░░░░ okay because why Well ░░░░░░░░ I said you know ░░░░░░░░ isn t a quota ░░░░░░░░ because the numbers have ░░░░░░░░ increased And I believe ░░░░░░░░ have actually increased Not ░░░░░░░░ increased in applications No ░░░░░░░░ are right about that ░░░░░░░░ that is a whole ░░░░░░░░ segment worth exploring about ░░░░░░░░ arms race of parents ░░░░░░░░ to get their kids ░░░░░░░░ schools and applying to ░░░░░░░░ more colleges now than ░░░░░░░░ did before So the ░░░░░░░░ has not doubled But ░░░░░░░░ number of applications being ░░░░░░░░ out has And colleges ░░░░░░░░ this because it increases ░░░░░░░░ numbers That s actually ░░░░░░░░ me correct you there ░░░░░░░░ has grown dramatically Add ░░░░░░░░ international applicants not just ░░░░░░░░ pushing Harvard on the ░░░░░░░░ app People qualified to ░░░░░░░░ to Harvard Straight as ░░░░░░░░ head of student council ░░░░░░░░ getting in because of ░░░░░░░░ race You haven t ░░░░░░░░ this though If college ░░░░░░░░ are counseling their students ░░░░░░░░ pretend they are not ░░░░░░░░ They do this for ░░░░░░░░ living They have no ░░░░░░░░ to lie about it ░░░░░░░░ have discrimination going on ░░░░░░░░ are pretending it s ░░░░░░░░ there for some weird ░░░░░░░░ reason What is that ░░░░░░░░ exactly because race has ░░░░░░░░ place in America in fault They believe that ░░░░░░░░ heighten their chances I ░░░░░░░░ t believe it will ░░░░░░░░ Because when Princeton university ░░░░░░░░ a study that I ░░░░░░░░ we both accept is ░░░░░░░░ says you need to ░░░░░░░░ 540 points higher than ░░░░░░░░ students in order to ░░░░░░░░ the same chance of ░░░░░░░░ In I think it ░░░░░░░░ a rational conclusion to ░░░░░░░░ that there is discrimination ░░░░░░░░ me ask you one ░░░░░░░░ question You noted a ░░░░░░░░ of painful periods of ░░░░░░░░ history both of us ░░░░░░░░ them Japanese internment James ░░░░░░░░ Why are they bad ░░░░░░░░ are bad ░░░░░░░░ to be in as ░░░░░░░░ Asian student Of all ░░░░░░░░ if you are an ░░░░░░░░ girl it s harder ░░░░░░░░ get into these colleges ░░░░░░░░ if you are anyone ░░░░░░░░ So or pick the ░░░░░░░░ example I can pick ░░░░░░░░ examples My question remains ░░░░░░░░ same is it okay ░░░░░░░░ discriminate based on the ░░░░░░░░ of race I was ░░░░░░░░ to believe it is ░░░░░░░░ You apparently this it ░░░░░░░░ white students ░░░░░░░░ from You are diverting ░░░░░░░░ the question and you ░░░░░░░░ that you don t ░░░░░░░░ an answer to this ░░░░░░░░ if racial discrimination is ░░░░░░░░ and I believe it ░░░░░░░░ then it is just ░░░░░░░░ A moral element here ░░░░░░░░ think right I agree ░░░░░░░░ racial discrimination is wrong ░░░░░░░░ to say that you ░░░░░░░░ starting off from a ░░░░░░░░ slate as an Mexican ░░░░░░░░ student and you are ░░░░░░░░ that your parents might ░░░░░░░░ deported by the next ░░░░░░░░ you have a significant ░░░░░░░░ than caucasian students Children ░░░░░░░░ not for the sins ░░░░░░░░
