Jim Brown: ‘People That Go Against the Election Are Going Against America’

COOPER How did this ░░░░░░░░ come about What did ░░░░░░░░ want to talk to ░░░░░░░░ president elect about BROWN ░░░░░░░░ the state of black ░░░░░░░░ And I ve been ░░░░░░░░ on that for many ░░░░░░░░ years And he said ░░░░░░░░ things in his early ░░░░░░░░ about wanting to do ░░░░░░░░ about it We have ░░░░░░░░ lot of violence in ░░░░░░░░ neighborhoods now We need ░░░░░░░░ And we need jobs ░░░░░░░░ what I m trying ░░░░░░░░ say COOPER What kind ░░░░░░░░ a response did you ░░░░░░░░ from him today BROWN ░░░░░░░░ positive He s almost ░░░░░░░░ two people you know ░░░░░░░░ s was very receptive ░░░░░░░░ Cracked some jokes And ░░░░░░░░ it very well And ░░░░░░░░ he was in that ░░░░░░░░ would work with us ░░░░░░░░ During the campaign he ░░░░░░░░ about reaching out to ░░░░░░░░ American voters in particular ░░░░░░░░ talked about inner cities ░░░░░░░░ a way that did ░░░░░░░░ some people Lot of ░░░░░░░░ Some African Americans of ░░░░░░░░ what have you got ░░░░░░░░ lose What have the ░░░░░░░░ ever done for you ░░░░░░░░ your schools aren t ░░░░░░░░ Can t get jobs ░░░░░░░░ t get an education ░░░░░░░░ know you get killed ░░░░░░░░ the streets Did during ░░░░░░░░ campaign did that stand ░░░░░░░░ to you at all ░░░░░░░░ did you think of ░░░░░░░░ and what did you ░░░░░░░░ of how you saw ░░░░░░░░ today BROWN Well I ░░░░░░░░ you something I saw ░░░░░░░░ of it And a ░░░░░░░░ of it I understood ░░░░░░░░ of his personality He ░░░░░░░░ different And for years ░░░░░░░░ presidency has been like ░░░░░░░░ smooth ride and nothing ░░░░░░░░ dramatic has happened But ░░░░░░░░ him every day is ░░░░░░░░ of energy Things are ░░░░░░░░ the happen And today ░░░░░░░░ I met him it ░░░░░░░░ like meeting a different ░░░░░░░░ COOPER You were a ░░░░░░░░ Clinton supporters is that ░░░░░░░░ BROWN Yes COOPER I ░░░░░░░░ wondering if was that ░░░░░░░░ know there were a ░░░░░░░░ of Clinton supporters who ░░░░░░░░ upset obviously about the ░░░░░░░░ of the election or ░░░░░░░░ about it You are ░░░░░░░░ to give him a ░░░░░░░░ You are willing this ░░░░░░░░ the president now This ░░░░░░░░ everybody s president You ░░░░░░░░ willing to let him ░░░░░░░░ try to work with ░░░░░░░░ BROWN Well in my ░░░░░░░░ people that go against ░░░░░░░░ election are going against ░░░░░░░░ We have free elections ░░░░░░░░ can vote we fought ░░░░░░░░ that we brag about ░░░░░░░░ and we know we ░░░░░░░░ going to have a ░░░░░░░░ and we re going ░░░░░░░░ have a loser So ░░░░░░░░ point is if we ░░░░░░░░ the winner and approach ░░░░░░░░ person have access to ░░░░░░░░ person and that person ░░░░░░░░ look at what we ░░░░░░░░ presenting that is not ░░░░░░░░ bad And I could ░░░░░░░░ set back and said ░░░░░░░░ Hillary didn t win ░░░░░░░░ m just going to ░░░░░░░░ on my butt and ░░░░░░░░ But see the one ░░░░░░░░ about this country if ░░░░░░░░ get off your butt ░░░░░░░░ you apply yourself you ░░░░░░░░ be successful But if ░░░░░░░░ want to be delivered ░░░░░░░░ re talk about the ░░░░░░░░ country COOPER In terms ░░░░░░░░ the people that President ░░░░░░░░ is going to have ░░░░░░░░ him the cabinet Predominantly ░░░░░░░░ predominantly male Is that ░░░░░░░░ concern to you at ░░░░░░░░ or do you feel ░░░░░░░░ reaching out to people ░░░░░░░░ ever been involved in ░░░░░░░░ government and it s ░░░░░░░░ know you re giving ░░░░░░░░ a chance BROWN You ░░░░░░░░ that s a tremendous ░░░░░░░░ you know and I ░░░░░░░░ an answer and a ░░░░░░░░ of the people black ░░░░░░░░ in my community might ░░░░░░░░ I m a sell ░░░░░░░░ by saying this The ░░░░░░░░ greatest people in my ░░░░░░░░ as a young person ░░░░░░░░ white my high school ░░░░░░░░ my high school coach ░░░░░░░░ a I graduate in ░░░░░░░░ High Kenneth Molloy who ░░░░░░░░ a mentor to yours ░░░░░░░░ And so I m ░░░░░░░░ a person that really ░░░░░░░░ in color I recognize ░░░░░░░░ inequities that certain cultures ░░░░░░░░ to go through I ░░░░░░░░ the history of slavery ░░░░░░░░ and all those things ░░░░░░░░ I m not a ░░░░░░░░ I can vote I ░░░░░░░░ participant I can invest ░░░░░░░░ money I can invest ░░░░░░░░ time And that s ░░░░░░░░ I m doing I ░░░░░░░░ not working for anybody ░░░░░░░░ m not making any ░░░░░░░░ doing what I m ░░░░░░░░ I m doing it ░░░░░░░░ someone did it for ░░░░░░░░ COOPER And you re ░░░░░░░░ a difference BROWN Absolutely ░░░░░░░░ It is an honor ░░░░░░░░ to you Mr Brown ░░░░░░░░ you BROWN Thank you ░░░░░░░░ having me COOPER The ░░░░░░░░ Jim Brown.”
