Marc Morial on Rittenhouse: ‘I Don’t Believe that Justice Was Done and Vigilantism Was Endorsed’

DIAZ BALART You know ░░░░░░░░ I was just kind ░░░░░░░░ reflecting on what Paul ░░░░░░░░ you know saying just ░░░░░░░░ a few minutes ago ░░░░░░░░ there has to be ░░░░░░░░ you know Things have ░░░░░░░░ change There has to ░░░░░░░░ a a way that ░░░░░░░░ this just doesn t ░░░░░░░░ anymore I mean you ░░░░░░░░ it s MORIAL Well ░░░░░░░░ DIAZ BALART it s ░░░░░░░░ a tragedy and then ░░░░░░░░ MORIAL I would say ░░░░░░░░ re so right It ░░░░░░░░ change But instances like ░░░░░░░░ hope that it sends ░░░░░░░░ message to all vigilantes ░░░░░░░░ be vigilantes considering to ░░░░░░░░ vigilantes that you re ░░░░░░░░ going to get away ░░░░░░░░ it That you cannot ░░░░░░░░ around And what we ░░░░░░░░ got to strike at ░░░░░░░░ this country is this ░░░░░░░░ of gun violence This ░░░░░░░░ that I can take ░░░░░░░░ law into my own ░░░░░░░░ That it is somehow ░░░░░░░░ for me to use ░░░░░░░░ against people who are ░░░░░░░░ their own business because ░░░░░░░░ don t think they ░░░░░░░░ in my neighborhood all ░░░░░░░░ They don t belong ░░░░░░░░ a particular area This ░░░░░░░░ what is at the ░░░░░░░░ of this This motion ░░░░░░░░ violence mixed with a ░░░░░░░░ of hatred based on ░░░░░░░░ and religion and status ░░░░░░░░ this country And and ░░░░░░░░ is where this moment ░░░░░░░░ moment of accountability hopefully ░░░░░░░░ spread but while at ░░░░░░░░ same time in this ░░░░░░░░ we see this outcome ░░░░░░░░ saw it in the ░░░░░░░░ case A very different ░░░░░░░░ A jury would seem ░░░░░░░░ sanction vigilantism by Kyle ░░░░░░░░ So in this week ░░░░░░░░ both of these trials ░░░░░░░░ in this last period ░░░░░░░░ we ve seen both ░░░░░░░░ these verdicts you know ░░░░░░░░ is a mixed outcome ░░░░░░░░ celebrate the idea that ░░░░░░░░ won and accountability won ░░░░░░░░ but we still have ░░░░░░░░ look at the Rittenhouse ░░░░░░░░ and understand and in ░░░░░░░░ case I don t ░░░░░░░░ that justice was done ░░░░░░░░ vigilantism was endorsed So ░░░░░░░░ take away for people ░░░░░░░░ what is the learning ░░░░░░░░ I I hope that ░░░░░░░░ all across the nation ░░░░░░░░ gain the courage and ░░░░░░░░ conviction to enforce the ░░░░░░░░ I hope that every ░░░░░░░░ will pass a hate ░░░░░░░░ law that has teeth ░░░░░░░░ that prosecutors will not ░░░░░░░░ afraid to use it ░░░░░░░░ that citizens will use ░░░░░░░░ iPhones and they ll ░░░░░░░░ acts of injustice which ░░░░░░░░ what we saw in ░░░░░░░░ George Floyd case and ░░░░░░░░ course in this case ░░░░░░░░ Bryant may not have ░░░░░░░░ that this videotape would ░░░░░░░░ the very videotape that ░░░░░░░░ would use to convict ░░░░░░░░ But nonetheless the existence ░░░░░░░░ the video tape demonstrates ░░░░░░░░ when people can see ░░░░░░░░ happens when they can ░░░░░░░░ their eyes on it ░░░░░░░░ those pictures do not ░░░░░░░░ So this is a ░░░░░░░░ victory for justice in ░░░░░░░░ country on this day ░░░░░░░░ the work ahead is ░░░░░░░░
