Rep. John Yarmuth Announces Retirement: ‘This Term Will Be My Last’

YARMUTH When I decided ░░░░░░░░ run for Congress in ░░░░░░░░ I wasn t looking ░░░░░░░░ a new career At ░░░░░░░░ time I simply wanted ░░░░░░░░ stop the Bush agenda ░░░░░░░░ helping flip control of ░░░░░░░░ House of Representatives to ░░░░░░░░ I said then that ░░░░░░░░ I could do that ░░░░░░░░ I liked the job ░░░░░░░░ not I would have ░░░░░░░░ something important So here ░░░░░░░░ am almost 16 years ░░░░░░░░ honored by Louisvillians eight ░░░░░░░░ with their votes of ░░░░░░░░ and extremely proud of ░░░░░░░░ work I have done ░░░░░░░░ our citizens The truth ░░░░░░░░ told I never expected ░░░░░░░░ be in Congress this ░░░░░░░░ I always said I ░░░░░░░░ t imagine being here ░░░░░░░░ than 10 years After ░░░░░░░░ election I was asked ░░░░░░░░ long I intended to ░░░░░░░░ and I never had ░░░░░░░░ answer Today I do ░░░░░░░░ term will be my ░░░░░░░░ While I am in ░░░░░░░░ health knock on wood ░░░░░░░░ know the significant physical ░░░░░░░░ of the job will ░░░░░░░░ become more challenging I ░░░░░░░░ be 75 when my ░░░░░░░░ term ends And the ░░░░░░░░ to have more control ░░░░░░░░ my time in the ░░░░░░░░ I have left has ░░░░░░░░ a high priority Candidly ░░░░░░░░ have found new and ░░░░░░░░ joy in spending time ░░░░░░░░ my young grandson And ░░░░░░░░ d like to spend ░░░░░░░░ of my golden years ░░░░░░░░ my family in Louisville ░░░░░░░░ I have just become ░░░░░░░░ lame duck I intend ░░░░░░░░ spend the next 15 ░░░░░░░░ working hard to build ░░░░░░░░ my proudest moment the ░░░░░░░░ of the American Rescue ░░░░░░░░ which I authored and ░░░░░░░░ through the Congress We ░░░░░░░░ still do much more ░░░░░░░░ the American people and ░░░░░░░░ that progress will unfortunately ░░░░░░░░ be done on a ░░░░░░░░ basis my chairmanship of ░░░░░░░░ House Budget Committee puts ░░░░░░░░ in a pivotal position ░░░░░░░░ help build an even ░░░░░░░░ future for our citizens ░░░░░░░░ will have much more ░░░░░░░░ say before I leave ░░░░░░░░ and a lot of ░░░░░░░░ will be expressing my ░░░░░░░░ for the great honor ░░░░░░░░ people of Louisville have ░░░░░░░░ me My time will ░░░░░░░░ to be devoted to ░░░░░░░░ until January 2023 but ░░░░░░░░ also will be working ░░░░░░░░ to ensure that our ░░░░░░░░ is represented in Congress ░░░░░░░░ the best possible Democratic ░░░░░░░░ or woman I know ░░░░░░░░ on my first day ░░░░░░░░ a private citizen I ░░░░░░░░ regret this decision and ░░░░░░░░ will be miserable about ░░░░░░░░ left the most gratifying ░░░░░░░░ of my professional life ░░░░░░░░ I also know that ░░░░░░░░ day thereafter I will ░░░░░░░░ other ways to help ░░░░░░░░ fellow citizens and I ░░░░░░░░ be more confident that ░░░░░░░░ decision I announced today ░░░░░░░░ the right one Thank ░░░░░░░░ from the bottom of ░░░░░░░░ heart for the confidence ░░░░░░░░ have placed in me ░░░░░░░░ urge you to immediately ░░░░░░░░ your energy to making ░░░░░░░░ that Kentucky s next ░░░░░░░░ District representative mayor Kentucky ░░░░░░░░ school board members judges ░░░░░░░░ of course Kentucky s ░░░░░░░░ U S senator reflect ░░░░░░░░ values that we have ░░░░░░░░ for together for the ░░░░░░░░ 15 years There is ░░░░░░░░ more to do and ░░░░░░░░ will take all of ░░░░░░░░ to get it done.”‎
