WRAY Good morning Mr ░░░░░░░░ Ranking Member Grassley members ░░░░░░░░ the committee On behalf ░░░░░░░░ the entire FBI I ░░░░░░░░ to begin by saying ░░░░░░░░ the brave women who ░░░░░░░░ here this morning Ms ░░░░░░░░ Ms Maroney Ms Nichols ░░░░░░░░ Ms Raisman and I ░░░░░░░░ there were some others ░░░░░░░░ today among the many ░░░░░░░░ Nassar hurt I am ░░░░░░░░ and profoundly sorry to ░░░░░░░░ and every one of ░░░░░░░░ I am sorry for ░░░░░░░░ you and your families ░░░░░░░░ have been through I ░░░░░░░░ sorry that so many ░░░░░░░░ people let you down ░░░░░░░░ and over again And ░░░░░░░░ am especially sorry that ░░░░░░░░ were people at the ░░░░░░░░ who had their own ░░░░░░░░ to stop this monster ░░░░░░░░ in 2015 and failed ░░░░░░░░ that is inexcusable it ░░░░░░░░ should have happened and ░░░░░░░░ are doing everything in ░░░░░░░░ power to make sure ░░░░░░░░ never happens again Now ░░░░░░░░ I became FBI director ░░░░░░░░ was generally familiar with ░░░░░░░░ Nassar story shortly after ░░░░░░░░ arrest in 2016 and ░░░░░░░░ remember even then being ░░░░░░░░ that there were so ░░░░░░░░ people who had failed ░░░░░░░░ do their jobs and ░░░░░░░░ these young women safe ░░░░░░░░ that predator But after ░░░░░░░░ became FBI Director and ░░░░░░░░ I learned that there ░░░░░░░░ people at the FBI ░░░░░░░░ had also failed these ░░░░░░░░ I was heartsick and ░░░░░░░░ I immediately ordered a ░░░░░░░░ review by our Inspection ░░░░░░░░ to try to get ░░░░░░░░ the bottom of it ░░░░░░░░ review led in part ░░░░░░░░ the Inspector General s ░░░░░░░░ review and I am ░░░░░░░░ to Inspector General Horowitz ░░░░░░░░ his team s extensive ░░░░░░░░ independent work I want ░░░░░░░░ be crystal clear the ░░░░░░░░ and inaction of the ░░░░░░░░ employees detailed in this ░░░░░░░░ are totally unacceptable These ░░░░░░░░ betrayed the core duty ░░░░░░░░ they have of protecting ░░░░░░░░ They failed to protect ░░░░░░░░ women and girls from ░░░░░░░░ And the work we ░░░░░░░░ certainly is often complicated ░░░░░░░░ uncertain and we will ░░░░░░░░ be perfect but the ░░░░░░░░ of fundamental errors that ░░░░░░░░ made in this case ░░░░░░░░ 2015 and 16 should ░░░░░░░░ have happened period And ░░░░░░░░ long as I m ░░░░░░░░ Director I am committed ░░░░░░░░ doing everything in my ░░░░░░░░ to make sure they ░░░░░░░░ happen again The FBI ░░░░░░░░ carry out its vital ░░░░░░░░ of protecting the American ░░░░░░░░ without trust and in ░░░░░░░░ case FBI agents certain ░░░░░░░░ agents broke that trust ░░░░░░░░ and inexcusably and to ░░░░░░░░ otherwise would be yet ░░░░░░░░ more insult to the ░░░░░░░░
