flights ░░░░░░░░ Afghanistan Matt we are ░░░░░░░░ on the eve of ░░░░░░░░ evacuation one day left ░░░░░░░░ the American forces leave ░░░░░░░░ What does the traffic ░░░░░░░░ like into Ramstein right ░░░░░░░░ BRADLEY Yeah well we ░░░░░░░░ actually we are still ░░░░░░░░ that traffic obviously This ░░░░░░░░ still going on at ░░░░░░░░ We are still seeing ░░░░░░░░ airlines taking off we ░░░░░░░░ still seeing some of ░░░░░░░░ C 7s C 17s ░░░░░░░░ 130s landing here bringing ░░░░░░░░ So what we re ░░░░░░░░ now is as of ░░░░░░░░ 7 30 A M ░░░░░░░░ morning there are now ░░░░░░░░ 000 Afghan evacuees who ░░░░░░░░ living at that base ░░░░░░░░ is a moving target ░░░░░░░░ the next 12 hours ░░░░░░░░ said they re expecting ░░░░░░░░ 1 700 to arrive ░░░░░░░░ about 2 000 to ░░░░░░░░ Notice how that has ░░░░░░░░ Now they re expecting ░░░░░░░░ to arrive in the ░░░░░░░░ 12 hours than will ░░░░░░░░ leaving It used to ░░░░░░░░ more that they were ░░░░░░░░ more and more and ░░░░░░░░ and fewer and fewer ░░░░░░░░ taking off Now it ░░░░░░░░ the opposite It looks ░░░░░░░░ that evacuation effort is ░░░░░░░░ of starting to slow ░░░░░░░░ and push more in ░░░░░░░░ direction of people moving ░░░░░░░░ from Ramstein towards the ░░░░░░░░ States most of them ░░░░░░░░ Dulles airport in Virginia ░░░░░░░░ than just more of ░░░░░░░░ and accepting and that ░░░░░░░░ city we were walking ░░░░░░░░ the other day growing ░░░░░░░░ and larger and larger ░░░░░░░░ still Willie this base ░░░░░░░░ at capacity 15 000 ░░░░░░░░ are still here That ░░░░░░░░ is probably going to ░░░░░░░░ around there that s ░░░░░░░░ as evacuations and many ░░░░░░░░ Afghans who would like ░░░░░░░░ leave the country What ░░░░░░░░ to them as this ░░░░░░░░ is met as President ░░░░░░░░ has promised on the ░░░░░░░░ which is tomorrow What ░░░░░░░░ on Wednesday on September ░░░░░░░░ to those left behind ░░░░░░░░ Yeah You know I ░░░░░░░░ t really know And ░░░░░░░░ ve spoken with some ░░░░░░░░ Afghans who were trying ░░░░░░░░ get out I actually ░░░░░░░░ with a young woman ░░░░░░░░ week she was on ░░░░░░░░ bus trying to get ░░░░░░░░ the airport She sat ░░░░░░░░ that bus for about ░░░░░░░░ hours The Taliban came ░░░░░░░░ and were looking around ░░░░░░░░ everybody It s tough ░░░░░░░░ they have to get ░░░░░░░░ the Taliban checkpoints and ░░░░░░░░ order to do that ░░░░░░░░ have to identify themselves ░░░░░░░░ the Taliban So if ░░░░░░░░ don t make it ░░░░░░░░ the airport if they ░░░░░░░░ t get out of ░░░░░░░░ country then they have ░░░░░░░░ return to Taliban occupied ░░░░░░░░ knowing that the Taliban ░░░░░░░░ their names their contact ░░░░░░░░ all of their information ░░░░░░░░ the Taliban knows that ░░░░░░░░ ve been trying desperately ░░░░░░░░ leave the country So ░░░░░░░░ s unclear what s ░░░░░░░░ to happen to them ░░░░░░░░ these young people I ░░░░░░░░ speaking to you know ░░░░░░░░ were actually willing to ░░░░░░░░ the Taliban the benefit ░░░░░░░░ the doubt because right ░░░░░░░░ despite all of the ░░░░░░░░ they ve heard from ░░░░░░░░ parents friends their relatives ░░░░░░░░ remember that brutal Taliban ░░░░░░░░ back in the 1990s ░░░░░░░░ far the Taliban haven ░░░░░░░░ necessarily shown themselves to ░░░░░░░░ quite the cruel taskmaster ░░░░░░░░ they had back in ░░░░░░░░ 90s and they re ░░░░░░░░ to either entertain the ░░░░░░░░ that they can live ░░░░░░░░ Taliban rule or that ░░░░░░░░ they can go and ░░░░░░░░ on a plane at ░░░░░░░░ Taliban controlled airport in ░░░░░░░░ and fly out after ░░░░░░░░ U S has completely ░░░░░░░░ after that August 31st ░░░░░░░░ That s a possibility ░░░░░░░░ We ve also heard ░░░░░░░░ other things that maybe ░░░░░░░░ and Qatar might come ░░░░░░░░ and create some kind ░░░░░░░░ international institution that would ░░░░░░░░ have governance over the ░░░░░░░░ shared governance with the ░░░░░░░░ All of those discussions ░░░░░░░░ where they re going ░░░░░░░░ or not that would ░░░░░░░░ successful whether the Taliban ░░░░░░░░ agree to allow third ░░░░░░░░ fourth countries to take ░░░░░░░░ or to have some ░░░░░░░░ in the management of ░░░░░░░░ airport going forward There ░░░░░░░░ a lot of plans ░░░░░░░░ are out there right ░░░░░░░░ but it s hard ░░░░░░░░ say hard to know ░░░░░░░░ what s going to ░░░░░░░░ after that date after ░░░░░░░░ August 31st, that deadline.”
