Chicago Health Official Says ‘No Evidence’ Lollapalooza Was a Super Spreader Event

ARWADY The bottom line ░░░░░░░░ we ve not seen ░░░░░░░░ that has surprised us ░░░░░░░░ to this Lollapalooza outbreak ░░░░░░░░ let me talk you ░░░░░░░░ what we ve been ░░░░░░░░ to follow up and ░░░░░░░░ I ll share the ░░░░░░░░ So as a reminder ░░░░░░░░ s case investigators continue ░░░░░░░░ reach out to interview ░░░░░░░░ Chicago resident who is ░░░░░░░░ with Covid 19 to ░░░░░░░░ their exposures to conduct ░░░░░░░░ tracing to match the ░░░░░░░░ records So we investigate ░░░░░░░░ case always not just ░░░░░░░░ to Lolla and other ░░░░░░░░ health departments do the ░░░░░░░░ thing across the United ░░░░░░░░ We then share information ░░░░░░░░ we re seeing exposures ░░░░░░░░ out of jurisdiction where ░░░░░░░░ like Lollapalooza would be ░░░░░░░░ also developed a supplemental ░░░░░░░░ for any cases that ░░░░░░░░ Lollapalooza attendants We knew ░░░░░░░░ would be a lot ░░░░░░░░ interest in this and ░░░░░░░░ where we have large ░░░░░░░░ we will do additional ░░░░░░░░ We put out a ░░░░░░░░ request for case reports ░░░░░░░░ any other health department ░░░░░░░░ use standard secure public ░░░░░░░░ communications channels for that ░░░░░░░░ supplemental interviews of anybody ░░░░░░░░ reported any attendance at ░░░░░░░░ are ongoing We also ░░░░░░░░ to follow emergency department ░░░░░░░░ at Chicago s hospitals ░░░░░░░░ we like emergency data ░░░░░░░░ can follow people who ░░░░░░░░ with symptoms that could ░░░░░░░░ Covid even if they ░░░░░░░░ t have a diagnosis ░░░░░░░░ it s a way ░░░░░░░░ see are we seeing ░░░░░░░░ changes in what we ░░░░░░░░ call syndromic surveillance We ░░░░░░░░ t see any changes ░░░░░░░░ Covid like illness patterns ░░░░░░░░ we also specifically every ░░░░░░░░ for Lollapalooza we actually ░░░░░░░░ a tag if people ░░░░░░░░ to the emergency department ░░░░░░░░ with this event because ░░░░░░░░ year we see people ░░░░░░░░ to the emergency department ░░░░░░░░ substance use issues or ░░░░░░░░ know heat problems or ░░░░░░░░ and this year we ░░░░░░░░ that for two weeks ░░░░░░░░ Lollapalooza so that we ░░░░░░░░ follow up any potential ░░░░░░░░ Did not see increases ░░░░░░░░ additional cases coming in ░░░░░░░░ the emergency department We ░░░░░░░░ followed Chicago s overall ░░░░░░░░ data So for example ░░░░░░░░ showed some of that ░░░░░░░░ group and some of ░░░░░░░░ we ve been seeing ░░░░░░░░ terms of Chicago breakdown ░░░░░░░░ not seen anything different ░░░░░░░░ the city level in ░░░░░░░░ of patterns that would ░░░░░░░░ an impact from Lolla ░░░░░░░░ then we obviously will ░░░░░░░░ to do further investigation ░░░░░░░░ necessary but I want ░░░░░░░░ make sure everybody understands ░░░░░░░░ person diagnosed with Covid ░░░░░░░░ on or after attending ░░░░░░░░ is included in the ░░░░░░░░ So these cases may ░░░░░░░░ may not have resulted ░░░░░░░░ transmission at Lolla itself ░░░░░░░░ ve been very broad ░░░░░░░░ Anybody who is potentially ░░░░░░░░ we want to investigate ░░░░░░░░ we re not saying ░░░░░░░░ every one of these ░░░░░░░░ was infected at Lolla ░░░░░░░░ fact we expect they ░░░░░░░░ were not but we ░░░░░░░░ a very broad view ░░░░░░░░ we want to understand ░░░░░░░░ whole picture So now ░░░░░░░░ days post as I ░░░░░░░░ we ve had no ░░░░░░░░ findings at this point ░░░░░░░░ s no evidence at ░░░░░░░░ point of a super ░░░░░░░░ event and there s ░░░░░░░░ evidence of substantial impact ░░░░░░░░ Chicago’s Covid epidemiology.”
