But at the same ░░░░░░░░ the thing that is ░░░░░░░░ to me is it ░░░░░░░░ t convert many voters ░░░░░░░░ to the Democratic side ░░░░░░░░ Republican voters who relied ░░░░░░░░ it who would have ░░░░░░░░ it if the folks ░░░░░░░░ were voting for got ░░░░░░░░ way Do you think ░░░░░░░░ how intense political identities ░░░░░░░░ now that policy can ░░░░░░░░ people to vote differently ░░░░░░░░ is partisanship now almost ░░░░░░░░ to the material consequences ░░░░░░░░ governance I think over ░░░░░░░░ it does I think ░░░░░░░░ s not as immediate ░░░░░░░░ look I think it ░░░░░░░░ important to just remember ░░░░░░░░ when we came into ░░░░░░░░ the economy was in ░░░░░░░░ free fall We had ░░░░░░░░ scramble and do a ░░░░░░░░ of stuff some of ░░░░░░░░ was inherited some of ░░░░░░░░ we initiated to stabilize ░░░░░░░░ financial system People hated ░░░░░░░░ It s hard to ░░░░░░░░ underscore how much the ░░░░░░░░ bailouts just angered everyone ░░░░░░░░ me And then you ░░░░░░░░ this long slow recovery ░░░░░░░░ the economy recovers technically ░░░░░░░░ it s another five ░░░░░░░░ before we re really ░░░░░░░░ to people feeling like ░░░░░░░░ the economy is moving ░░░░░░░░ working for me And ░░░░░░░░ truth is that if ░░░░░░░░ Trump doesn t get ░░░░░░░░ let s say a ░░░░░░░░ a Joe Biden or ░░░░░░░░ Clinton had immediately succeeded ░░░░░░░░ and the economy suddenly ░░░░░░░░ 3 percent unemployment I ░░░░░░░░ we would have consolidated ░░░░░░░░ sense that oh actually ░░░░░░░░ policies that Obama put ░░░░░░░░ place worked The fact ░░░░░░░░ Trump interrupts essentially the ░░░░░░░░ of our policies but ░░░░░░░░ benefits from the economic ░░░░░░░░ and growth that we ░░░░░░░░ initiated means people aren ░░░░░░░░ sure Well gosh unemployment ░░░░░░░░ 3 5 percent under ░░░░░░░░ Trump Now I would ░░░░░░░░ and I think a ░░░░░░░░ of economists that I ░░░░░░░░ would suggest that mostly ░░░░░░░░ had nothing to do ░░░░░░░░ Donald Trump s policies ░░░░░░░░ mostly had to do ░░░░░░░░ the fact that we ░░░░░░░░ put the economy on ░░░░░░░░ footing where he essentially ░░░░░░░░ continued the longest peacetime ░░░░░░░░ and sustained job growth ░░░░░░░░ American history But if ░░░░░░░░ re the average voter ░░░░░░░░ re kind of thinking ░░░░░░░░ you know looks like ░░░░░░░░ policies are working for ░░░░░░░░ to some degree which ░░░░░░░░ explains why Trump was ░░░░░░░░ to make some inroads ░░░░░░░░ overstated but real inroads ░░░░░░░░ non white voters who ░░░░░░░░ feeling like what I ░░░░░░░░ working and making decent ░░░░░░░░ and things feel pretty ░░░░░░░░ So that clouds what ░░░░░░░░ think would have been ░░░░░░░░ more impactful shift in ░░░░░░░░ views towards Democrats as ░░░░░░░░ result of my presidency ░░░░░░░░ think that what we ░░░░░░░░ seeing now is Joe ░░░░░░░░ the administration are essentially ░░░░░░░░ the job And I ░░░░░░░░ it ll be an ░░░░░░░░ test 90 percent of ░░░░░░░░ folks who were there ░░░░░░░░ my administration they are ░░░░░░░░ and building on the ░░░░░░░░ we talked about whether ░░░░░░░░ s the Affordable Care ░░░░░░░░ or our climate change ░░░░░░░░ and the Paris climate ░░░░░░░░ and figuring out how ░░░░░░░░ we improve the ladders ░░░░░░░░ mobility through things like ░░░░░░░░ colleges If they re ░░░░░░░░ over the next four ░░░░░░░░ as I think they ░░░░░░░░ be I think that ░░░░░░░░ have an impact Does ░░░░░░░░ override that sort of ░░░░░░░░ politics that has come ░░░░░░░░ dominate Twitter and the ░░░░░░░░ and that has seeped ░░░░░░░░ how people think about ░░░░░░░░ Probably not completely But ░░░░░░░░ the margins if you ░░░░░░░░ changing 5 percent of ░░░░░░░░ electorate that makes a ░░░░░░░░ Most importantly I think ░░░░░░░░ does have an impact ░░░░░░░░ young people as they ░░░░░░░░ forming their ideas about ░░░░░░░░ and who they are ░░░░░░░░ was both a manifestation ░░░░░░░░ the more progressive views ░░░░░░░░ young people brought to ░░░░░░░░ in 2008 and 2009 ░░░░░░░░ and I think my ░░░░░░░░ helped to solidify a ░░░░░░░░ tilt in the direction ░░░░░░░░ progressive politics among young ░░░░░░░░ that is now continuing ░░░░░░░░ their 30s as the ░░░░░░░░ and even the Gen ░░░░░░░░ are starting to marry ░░░░░░░░ have families who know ░░░░░░░░ political identity has been ░░░░░░░░ and changed in pretty ░░░░░░░░ ways.
