OCASIO CORTEZ Also check ░░░░░░░░ out What are those ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ I love too is ░░░░░░░░ plants that are culturally ░░░░░░░░ to the community it ░░░░░░░░ so important If you ░░░░░░░░ all the way back ░░░░░░░░ that looks like composting ░░░░░░░░ like they ve got ░░░░░░░░ going on which is ░░░░░░░░ awesome too because composting ░░░░░░░░ really hard to do ░░░░░░░░ a neighborhood like this ░░░░░░░░ just don t have ░░░░░░░░ pick ups and the ░░░░░░░░ of it that a ░░░░░░░░ of other communities have ░░░░░░░░ that s really how ░░░░░░░░ do it right that ░░░░░░░░ such a core component ░░░░░░░░ the Green New Deal ░░░░░░░░ having all of these ░░░░░░░░ make sense in a ░░░░░░░░ context And it s ░░░░░░░░ area that I we ░░░░░░░░ the most pushback on ░░░░░░░░ people say like why ░░░░░░░░ need to do that ░░░░░░░░ s too hard But ░░░░░░░░ you really think about ░░░░░░░░ when someone says that ░░░░░░░░ s too hard to ░░░░░░░░ a green space that ░░░░░░░░ yucca instead of I ░░░░░░░░ t know cauliflower or ░░░░░░░░ what you re doing ░░░░░░░░ that you re taking ░░░░░░░░ colonial approach to environmentalism ░░░░░░░░ that is why a ░░░░░░░░ of communities of color ░░░░░░░░ resistant to certain environmentalist ░░░░░░░░ because they come with ░░░░░░░░ colonial lens on them ░░░░░░░░ it should be no ░░░░░░░░ that sometimes a lot ░░░░░░░░ these projects don t ░░░░░░░░ out occasionally because our ░░░░░░░░ are naturally attuned to ░░░░░░░░ in an environmentally conscious ░░░░░░░░ You know a lot ░░░░░░░░ us are one or ░░░░░░░░ generations removed from living ░░░░░░░░ the land My family ░░░░░░░░ Puerto Rico in many ░░░░░░░░ lives off the land ░░░░░░░░ if I went to ░░░░░░░░ predominately white community and ░░░░░░░░ okay you guys are ░░░░░░░░ to be growing plantains ░░░░░░░░ yucca and all these ░░░░░░░░ that you don t ░░░░░░░░ how to cook it ░░░░░░░░ and that your palate ░░░░░░░░ t accustomed to it ░░░░░░░░ going to be like ░░░░░░░░ for a little bit ░░░░░░░░ it s not easy ░░░░░░░░ need to make it ░░░░░░░░ easy as possible to ░░░░░░░░ of just flow into ░░░░░░░░ communities and to make ░░░░░░░░ work So the way ░░░░░░░░ you do this right ░░░░░░░░ that you don t ░░░░░░░░ of come into a ░░░░░░░░ and impose what you ░░░░░░░░ is right That is ░░░░░░░░ so many community development ░░░░░░░░ get wrong whether it ░░░░░░░░ housing whether it s ░░░░░░░░ projects What you need ░░░░░░░░ do is plug it ░░░░░░░░ and find leaders in ░░░░░░░░ communities and support them ░░░░░░░░ also just like pay ░░░░░░░░ to when they re ░░░░░░░░ about these things because ░░░░░░░░ often they ll be ░░░░░░░░ these things forever and ░░░░░░░░ just go on deaf ░░░░░░░░ and then when someone ░░░░░░░░ it up from a ░░░░░░░░ community that s like ░░░░░░░░ first time it s ░░░░░░░░ when so many people ░░░░░░░░ been talking about this ░░░░░░░░ a long time So ░░░░░░░░ s a huge element ░░░░░░░░ all of this.”
