HAYES Mark Paul who ░░░░░░░░ an economist and a ░░░░░░░░ at the roosevelt institute ░░░░░░░░ has been doing some ░░░░░░░░ sort of think tank ░░░░░░░░ on this we got ░░░░░░░░ Same work yeah so ░░░░░░░░ economists here I m ░░░░░░░░ excited to say that ░░░░░░░░ know it s unquestionable ░░░░░░░░ climate change and inequality ░░░░░░░░ our two largest issues ░░░░░░░░ first off I want ░░░░░░░░ thank you for identifying ░░░░░░░░ and calling them out ░░░░░░░░ identifying them as being ░░░░░░░░ the crises of our ░░░░░░░░ what s important though ░░░░░░░░ that they re inextricably ░░░░░░░░ we can t separate ░░░░░░░░ from inequality we simply ░░░░░░░░ what we be doing ░░░░░░░░ leaving behind frontline communities ░░░░░░░░ be repeating that historic ░░░░░░░░ that we ve rooted ░░░░░░░░ the structure of our ░░░░░░░░ economy and democracy Ocasio ░░░░░░░░ there s a lot ░░░░░░░░ lessons for instance we ░░░░░░░░ take away from the ░░░░░░░░ deal which unfortunately in ░░░░░░░░ ways excluded certain communities ░░░░░░░░ the African American community ░░░░░░░░ the U S So ░░░░░░░░ an economist I can ░░░░░░░░ that there s no ░░░░░░░░ that we can afford ░░░░░░░░ do a green new ░░░░░░░░ it is reasonable it ░░░░░░░░ the appropriate type of ░░░░░░░░ but I m curious ░░░░░░░░ hear from you what ░░░░░░░░ of lessons did you ░░░░░░░░ from the new deal ░░░░░░░░ in particular earlier we ░░░░░░░░ that it would take ░░░░░░░░ too long yet the ░░░░░░░░ scientists are telling us ░░░░░░░░ have 10 years we ░░░░░░░░ must act now and ░░░░░░░░ believe that as possible ░░░░░░░░ did a tremendous amount ░░░░░░░░ the first hundred days ░░░░░░░░ passed things that continued ░░░░░░░░ affect lives and continued ░░░░░░░░ lift up the most ░░░░░░░░ in our society today ░░░░░░░░ I believe we can ░░░░░░░░ it but what are ░░░░░░░░ lessons from the new ░░░░░░░░ that we can bring ░░░░░░░░ today there s a ░░░░░░░░ one is you know ░░░░░░░░ talk and we start ░░░░░░░░ apart the problem of ░░░░░░░░ will you know technologically ░░░░░░░░ is it politically feasible ░░░░░░░░ of the big parts ░░░░░░░░ political will is fear ░░░░░░░░ especially fear within our ░░░░░░░░ party if we do ░░░░░░░░ if we are a ░░░░░░░░ too bold we will ░░░░░░░░ our majorities we will ░░░░░░░░ everything and and it ░░░░░░░░ a difficult question because ░░░░░░░░ the house has been ░░░░░░░░ in in ways that ░░░░░░░░ extremely difficult but I ░░░░░░░░ there s a couple ░░░░░░░░ one is that when ░░░░░░░░ look into our history ░░░░░░░░ our party was boldest ░░░░░░░░ of the new new ░░░░░░░░ the great society the ░░░░░░░░ rights act and so ░░░░░░░░ we had and carried ░░░░░░░░ majorities in the house ░░░░░░░░ the Senate we carried ░░░░░░░░ presidency They had to ░░░░░░░░ the Constitution of the ░░░░░░░░ States to make sure ░░░░░░░░ did not get reelected ░░░░░░░░ we you know there ░░░░░░░░ so many extraordinary things ░░░░░░░░ were happening in that ░░░░░░░░ that were uniting working ░░░░░░░░ and and so that ░░░░░░░░ think is one of ░░░░░░░░ encouraging lessons some of ░░░░░░░░ lessons of the new ░░░░░░░░ that we have learned ░░░░░░░░ was redlining was the ░░░░░░░░ that it was an ░░░░░░░░ in white working class ░░░░░░░░ and everyone else was ░░░░░░░░ behind and what we ░░░░░░░░ dealing with today is ░░░░░░░░ racial wealth gap that ░░░░░░░░ from that disproportionate investment ░░░░░░░░ then because then you ░░░░░░░░ an entire community houses ░░░░░░░░ was the foundation you ░░░░░░░░ real estate often is ░░░░░░░░ foundation of intergenerational wealth ░░░░░░░░ all these other communities ░░░░░░░░ Mexican American brown indigenous ░░░░░░░░ were left behind which ░░░░░░░░ what we re reckoning ░░░░░░░░ today so that s ░░░░░░░░ when we talk about ░░░░░░░░ green you deal when ░░░░░░░░ open it and when ░░░░░░░░ look at it there ░░░░░░░░ specific causes for racial ░░░░░░░░ and frontline communities to ░░░░░░░░ investment in poor communities ░░░░░░░░ working class communities that ░░░░░░░░ struggling today and to ░░░░░░░░ specific provisions to ensure ░░░░░░░░ justice in the implementation ░░░░░░░░ these programs.”
