Mulvaney: The CFPB ‘Is an Awful Example of a Bureaucracy that Has Gone Wrong’

REPORTER To what extent ░░░░░░░░ your criticisms of the ░░░░░░░░ reflective of your kind ░░░░░░░░ ideological commitment to small ░░░░░░░░ MULVANEY I don t ░░░░░░░░ how to answer that ░░░░░░░░ I ll talk about ░░░░░░░░ previous statements about the ░░░░░░░░ How about that Yeah ░░░░░░░░ opinion of the structure ░░░░░░░░ CFPB has not changed ░░░░░░░░ still think it is ░░░░░░░░ awful example of a ░░░░░░░░ that has gone wrong ░░░░░░░░ is almost entirely unaccountable ░░░░░░░░ the people who are ░░░░░░░░ to oversee it or ░░░░░░░░ for it I still ░░░░░░░░ the same fundamental principled ░░░░░░░░ about the way this ░░░░░░░░ is structured I think ░░░░░░░░ is wrong to have ░░░░░░░░ completely unaccountable federal bureaucracy ░░░░░░░░ think it s completely ░░░░░░░░ By the way I ░░░░░░░░ just learning about the ░░░░░░░░ that I have as ░░░░░░░░ director They would frighten ░░░░░░░░ of you They would ░░░░░░░░ worry you to think ░░░░░░░░ how little oversight Congress ░░░░░░░░ over me now that ░░░░░░░░ m the director how ░░░░░░░░ oversight the committees have ░░░░░░░░ how CFPB functions I ░░░░░░░░ if you really studied ░░░░░░░░ constitutional nature of our ░░░░░░░░ you studied the way ░░░░░░░░ the bureaucracy is supposed ░░░░░░░░ work it would both ░░░░░░░░ and disturb you that ░░░░░░░░ agency is as independent ░░░░░░░░ it is And it ░░░░░░░░ not surprise me to ░░░░░░░░ extent that we are ░░░░░░░░ a succession challenge as ░░░░░░░░ by Ms English It ░░░░░░░░ not surprise me that ░░░░░░░░ grows out of an ░░░░░░░░ that thinks it s ░░░░░░░░ accountable to anybody in ░░░░░░░░ first place So no ░░░░░░░░ of that has changed ░░░░░░░░ being said I cannot ░░░░░░░░ a lot of it ░░░░░░░░ it s statutory it ░░░░░░░░ up to Congress to ░░░░░░░░ it I am running ░░░░░░░░ agency as the law ░░░░░░░░ for it.”
