Simone Biles: I Blame Larry Nassar and Entire System that Enabled and Perpetrated His Abuse

BILES Over the course ░░░░░░░░ my gymnastics career I ░░░░░░░░ won 25 world championship ░░░░░░░░ and seven olympic medals ░░░░░░░░ team U S A ░░░░░░░░ record means so much ░░░░░░░░ me and I am ░░░░░░░░ of my representation of ░░░░░░░░ nation through gymnastics I ░░░░░░░░ also a survivor of ░░░░░░░░ abuse And I believe ░░░░░░░░ a doubt that the ░░░░░░░░ that led to my ░░░░░░░░ and allowed it to ░░░░░░░░ are directly the result ░░░░░░░░ the fact that the ░░░░░░░░ created by Congress to ░░░░░░░░ and protect me as ░░░░░░░░ athlete U S A ░░░░░░░░ and the United States ░░░░░░░░ and Paralympic Committee failed ░░░░░░░░ do their job Nelson ░░░░░░░░ once said There can ░░░░░░░░ no keener revelation of ░░░░░░░░ society s soul than ░░░░░░░░ way in which it ░░░░░░░░ its children It is ░░░░░░░░ power of that statement ░░░░░░░░ compels and empowers me ░░░░░░░░ be here in front ░░░░░░░░ you today I don ░░░░░░░░ want another young gymnast ░░░░░░░░ athlete or any individual ░░░░░░░░ experience the horror that ░░░░░░░░ and hundreds of others ░░░░░░░░ endured before during and ░░░░░░░░ to this day in ░░░░░░░░ wake of the Larry ░░░░░░░░ abuse To be clear ░░░░░░░░ CHAIRMAN Take your time ░░░░░░░░ To be clear I ░░░░░░░░ Larry Nassar and I ░░░░░░░░ blame an entire system ░░░░░░░░ enabled and perpetrated his ░░░░░░░░ U S A gymnastics ░░░░░░░░ the United States Olympic ░░░░░░░░ Paralympic Committee knew that ░░░░░░░░ was abused by their ░░░░░░░░ team doctor long before ░░░░░░░░ was ever made aware ░░░░░░░░ their knowledge In May ░░░░░░░░ 2015 Rhonda Faehn the ░░░░░░░░ head of U S ░░░░░░░░ gymnastics Women s Program ░░░░░░░░ told by my friend ░░░░░░░░ teammate Maggie Nichols that ░░░░░░░░ suspected I too was ░░░░░░░░ victim I didn t ░░░░░░░░ the magnitude of what ░░░░░░░░ was happening until the ░░░░░░░░ star published its article ░░░░░░░░ the fall of 2016 ░░░░░░░░ Former U S A ░░░░░░░░ Doctor Accused of Abuse ░░░░░░░░ while I was a ░░░░░░░░ of the 2016 U ░░░░░░░░ Olympic team neither U ░░░░░░░░ A G U S ░░░░░░░░ P C nor the ░░░░░░░░ ever contacted me or ░░░░░░░░ parents While others had ░░░░░░░░ informed and investigations were ░░░░░░░░ I have been left ░░░░░░░░ wonder why I was ░░░░░░░░ told until after the ░░░░░░░░ games This is the ░░░░░░░░ case of sexual abuse ░░░░░░░░ the history of American ░░░░░░░░ And although there have ░░░░░░░░ a fully independent investigation ░░░░░░░░ the FBI s handholding ░░░░░░░░ the case neither U ░░░░░░░░ A G nor U ░░░░░░░░ O P C have ░░░░░░░░ been made the subject ░░░░░░░░ the same level of ░░░░░░░░ These are the entities ░░░░░░░░ with the protection of ░░░░░░░░ sport and our athletes ░░░░░░░░ yet it feels like ░░░░░░░░ of responsibility and organizational ░░░░░░░░ remain unanswered.”
