CNN’s Panel Fact Checks Dem Gov. Newsom on Recall: ‘More Broad Based Effort’ than He Claims

KING Let s discuss ░░░░░░░░ our CNN national political ░░░░░░░░ Maeve Reston and CNN ░░░░░░░░ commentator Errol Louis Maeve ░░░░░░░░ you see the Governor ░░░░░░░░ doing a bunch of ░░░░░░░░ TV interviews including he ░░░░░░░░ be on The Lead ░░░░░░░░ Jake Tapper later today ░░░░░░░░ you see that ad ░░░░░░░░ tells me the Governor ░░░░░░░░ a candidate that he ░░░░░░░░ his opponents are likely ░░░░░░░░ least he must believe ░░░░░░░░ to get enough signatures ░░░░░░░░ have a recall election ░░░░░░░░ he s at it ░░░░░░░░ He is John and ░░░░░░░░ s such a shift ░░░░░░░░ strategy from what we ░░░░░░░░ seen over the last ░░░░░░░░ of months Obviously when ░░░░░░░░ recall effort got going ░░░░░░░░ year he completely ignored ░░░░░░░░ and then when it ░░░░░░░░ up steam particularly over ░░░░░░░░ holidays when he had ░░░░░░░░ in a second set ░░░░░░░░ stay at home orders ░░░░░░░░ angered a lot of ░░░░░░░░ he would sort of ░░░░░░░░ questions about the recall ░░░░░░░░ brushing them off and ░░░░░░░░ his leadership during the ░░░░░░░░ but now this is ░░░░░░░░ media blitz like nothing ░░░░░░░░ we have seen over ░░░░░░░░ last two days And ░░░░░░░░ it tells you is ░░░░░░░░ the recall most likely ░░░░░░░░ qualify and that they ░░░░░░░░ that there s significant ░░░░░░░░ here California is one ░░░░░░░░ those states where it ░░░░░░░░ very easy to get ░░░░░░░░ recall on the ballot ░░░░░░░░ s a lot harder ░░░░░░░░ actually recall a governor ░░░░░░░░ because of the Democrats ░░░░░░░░ outnumber Republicans here but ░░░░░░░░ is a more broad ░░░░░░░░ effort than those ads ░░░░░░░░ making it out to ░░░░░░░░ and they know that ░░░░░░░░ really have to tell ░░░░░░░░ side of the story ░░░░░░░░ try to define the ░░░░░░░░ at this pivotal moment ░░░░░░░░ John KING And Errol ░░░░░░░░ is right It is ░░░░░░░░ to get on the ░░░░░░░░ than it is to ░░░░░░░░ then actually recall the ░░░░░░░░ But this is the ░░░░░░░░ that sent Gray Davis ░░░░░░░░ and brought us Arnold ░░░░░░░░ back in the day ░░░░░░░░ governor of California So ░░░░░░░░ can see that Newsom ░░░░░░░░ taking it seriously because ░░░░░░░░ remembers that history This ░░░░░░░░ just his way he ░░░░░░░░ getting help if you ░░░░░░░░ from progressives Elizabeth Warren ░░░░░░░░ a naked partisan power ░░░░░░░░ extreme right wing Republicans ░░░░░░░░ trying to recall Gavin ░░░░░░░░ Why Because he dares ░░░░░░░░ listen to scientists and ░░░░░░░░ to put power in ░░░░░░░░ hands of working people ░░░░░░░░ s have Gavin s ░░░░░░░░ Cory Booker My friend ░░░░░░░░ Newsom has been a ░░░░░░░░ throughout this crisis Now ░░░░░░░░ unpopular partisan recall will ░░░░░░░░ critical taxpayer dollars when ░░░░░░░░ re needed most Stop ░░░░░░░░ recall Again that tells ░░░░░░░░ this is somebody who ░░░░░░░░ trying to mobilize the ░░░░░░░░ base of the Democratic ░░░░░░░░ A to help them ░░░░░░░░ money now and B ░░░░░░░░ potentially turn out votes ░░░░░░░░ he needs them LOUIS ░░░░░░░░ and that progressive base ░░░░░░░░ the way is not ░░░░░░░░ his his problem is ░░░░░░░░ problem of course is ░░░░░░░░ not just the extremists ░░░░░░░░ assume that they do ░░░░░░░░ so I guess the ░░░░░░░░ aren t entirely inaccurate ░░░░░░░░ there are a lot ░░░░░░░░ people who are not ░░░░░░░░ about how the wildfire ░░░░░░░░ was handled they re ░░░░░░░░ happy about how the ░░░░░░░░ crisis was handled they ░░░░░░░░ not happy about the ░░░░░░░░ they re not happy ░░░░░░░░ a lot of different ░░░░░░░░ There are a lot ░░░░░░░░ very California specific issues ░░░░░░░░ have generated some controversy ░░░░░░░░ just the far right ░░░░░░░░ ll give you one ░░░░░░░░ California just voted a ░░░░░░░░ weeks ago to give ░░░░░░░░ pandemic relief dollars to ░░░░░░░░ immigrants Now you know ░░░░░░░░ live in a heavily ░░░░░░░░ community here in New ░░░░░░░░ City we wouldn t ░░░░░░░░ twice about that but ░░░░░░░░ doesn t necessarily sit ░░░░░░░░ with everybody and some ░░░░░░░░ out there are upset ░░░░░░░░ it So he s ░░░░░░░░ to have to wage ░░░░░░░░ much broader campaign if ░░░░░░░░ hopes to get past ░░░░░░░░ Let s keep in ░░░░░░░░ he is upside down ░░░░░░░░ the polls right now ░░░░░░░░ unfavorables are slightly higher ░░░░░░░░ his favorables so he ░░░░░░░░ got a real fight ░░░░░░░░ his hands.”
