PRESSLEY Thank you Mr ░░░░░░░░ I rise today in ░░░░░░░░ of my amendment to ░░░░░░░░ 1 the For The ░░░░░░░░ Act HR 1 is ░░░░░░░░ transformative legislation which fights ░░░░░░░░ suppression promotes access to ░░░░░░░░ ballot cracks down on ░░░░░░░░ in politics and provides ░░░░░░░░ to the American people ░░░░░░░░ this bill has never ░░░░░░░░ more urgent We must ░░░░░░░░ to protect and preserve ░░░░░░░░ democracy My amendment gets ░░░░░░░░ the heart of HR ░░░░░░░░ and recognizes the contributions ░░░░░░░░ young people continue to ░░░░░░░░ to our democracy By ░░░░░░░░ the federal voting age ░░░░░░░░ 18 to 16 years ░░░░░░░░ age my amendment would ░░░░░░░░ young Americans to help ░░░░░░░░ and form the policies ░░░░░░░░ will set the course ░░░░░░░░ our future From police ░░░░░░░░ to immigration reform to ░░░░░░░░ change to the future ░░░░░░░░ work and minimum wage ░░░░░░░░ young people are organizing ░░░░░░░░ and calling us to ░░░░░░░░ They are at the ░░░░░░░░ of social movements and ░░░░░░░░ more than earned inclusion ░░░░░░░░ our democracy Mr Speaker ░░░░░░░░ and 17 year olds ░░░░░░░░ of mine are supporting ░░░░░░░░ families They are working ░░░░░░░░ for enrichment or to ░░░░░░░░ a resume but because ░░░░░░░░ have no choice They ░░░░░░░░ attending school full time ░░░░░░░░ taking care of loved ░░░░░░░░ in the midst of ░░░░░░░░ Covid crisis Young people ░░░░░░░░ contributing both to the ░░░░░░░░ force and their local ░░░░░░░░ by paying taxes and ░░░░░░░░ they are deprived of ░░░░░░░░ opportunity to exercise their ░░░░░░░░ to vote Some have ░░░░░░░░ the maturity of our ░░░░░░░░ I don t 16 ░░░░░░░░ 17 year olds today ░░░░░░░░ a wisdom and maturity ░░░░░░░░ by today s challenges ░░░░░░░░ and opportunities They deserve ░░░░░░░░ demand a government that ░░░░░░░░ accountable to them a ░░░░░░░░ that values their voices ░░░░░░░░ understands the depth and ░░░░░░░░ of their lived experience ░░░░░░░░ are not a monolith ░░░░░░░░ they are nation builders ░░░░░░░░ through a global pandemic ░░░░░░░░ racial injustice and rebuilding ░░░░░░░░ democracy Now is the ░░░░░░░░ for us to meet ░░░░░░░░ moment and enfranchise 16 ░░░░░░░░ 17-year-olds.”
