Molly Jong-Fast: A Lot of People Get Bullied But Not End up Killing Five People
EXCERPT:
JONG-FAST: "But then it was sort of the job for him not to get an AR-15, right? I mean, that's — you know, a lot of people are believed when they are young, and they don’t kill five people. And I think that ultimately this was like a failure of gun laws, right, and he didn't — there is a red flag law, they didn’t pursue it because it was a sanctuary city for the Second Amendment, which is, you know, kind of nuts. And I also think that ultimately, you know, he had shown violence towards his mother and a lot of these people have kind of misogyny and domestic violence, and so many of these shootings can be stopped if people — you know, if these things are taken seriously. So, I do think that there were a lot of avenues to stop this person, but I also say that you are seeing a Republican Party that is targeting, you know, a lot of drag queens and LGBTQ, and this is not an accident, right? There is a lot of targeting and there’s a lot of really — and it’s the moment now where we all need to stand with the LGBTQ community and be for them and, you know, they need to be safe, just like the rest of us."
