Sen. Gillibrand: If Dems Gain Control, ‘The First Thing We Should Do Is…Get Rid of ICE”
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: Abolishing ICE Should Be One of the First Things Dems Do After Taking Congress (Mediaite)
Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York said her party should make abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency one of the first things the Democratic Party does in the event that they flip Congress after the 2018 midterms.
“So when we flip the House and flip the Senate, I think the first thing we should do is deal with the children who have been separated from their families at the border. I think we should get rid of ICE,” Gillibrand said while speaking at the OZY Fest in New York City. “We should separate out two missions, the anti-terrorism mission, the national security mission, and then on the other side make sure you’re do, making sure you’re looking at immigration as a humanitarian issue.”
The junior New York senator continued: “These are civil issues, these are families, look at it as the economic engine that it is, that immigration is our strength, our diversity is what makes our country and our economy so strong.”
