Angus King: Trump Doesn’t Have the Authority for ‘Broader Engagement’ in Syria

‘It’s a close call’

EXCERPT:

KING: "Well, it’s a close call. If he is narrowly construing it as the dealing with the issue of chemical weapons, we’re a member of an international agreement on chemical weapons, not using them for over 100 years, I think he can make a legal case. The question is what happens next and are we talking about a broader engagement, in which case I don't think the President has the authority. That’s when we get down into what’s Congress's responsibility here, which they've so far assiduously avoided over the last three years."
