Obama Delivers Commencement Address at Worcester Technical High School

The president told students to vote against Republicans for not supporting his student loan plan

WORCESTER — President Barack Obama, delivering the keynote speech at the graduation of Worcester Technical High School today, praised the students for their role in shaping the school's reputation as one of the best in the country. 

"I'm here today because there is nothing ordinary about Worcester Tech or the Class of 2014," Mr. Obama told the graduates during the ceremony at the DCU Center. "You have set yourselves apart. This high school has set itself apart."

The president, who was greeted with a roar of applause when he approached the podium, said the school should be proud of its successes.

"I want the nation to learn from Worcester Tech," he said.

After the speech, Mr. Obama shook each graduate's hand as diplomas were handed out.

Before arriving at the arena at 3:40 p.m., Mr. Obama landed at Worcester Regional Airport aboard Air Force One. He was greeted at the airport by Gov. Deval Patrick. U.S. Rep. James P. McGovern and Worcester Mayor Joseph M. Petty.
