State Dept Claims Palestinian Unity Gov Not Backed by Hamas (Washington Free Beacon)

State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf claimed Tuesday that the new Palestinian unity government is not backed by Hamas.

“There have been reports out there saying this is a Hamas-backed government,” she said. “That’s just not the case.”

When questioned whether not being “Hamas-backed” is the same thing as not having members of Hamas in the government, Harf replied, “I think that some of those reports have led people incorrectly to think that members of Hamas are part of the new government, which is why I wanted to be very clear that they’re not.”
