Jonathan Alter: Trump May Only Give Access to Reporters Who Kiss up to Him

‘We’re going to see very different kind of presidency’

Jonathan Alter: Trump May Only Give Access To Reporters Who Kiss Up To Him (RealClearPolitics)

Obama biographer Jonathan Alter talked to MSNBC about Obamacare and the legacy of the outgoing 44th President of the United States. Alter, speaking about intel briefings, said Trump continues to see things about him rather than about the United States.

ARI MELBER, MSNBC: I want to echo [NBC reporter] Hallie Jackson who has noted that he has not held a press conference unlike most incoming president-elects of either party. He is trying clearly to use social media and certain appearances to get his message out without being responsive. And then this is a bit of a different scene to say the least.

JONATHAN ALTER: Well, we're going to see very different kind of presidency. And he might try to go a long period without any access to the press except to favored reporters who kiss up to him. We could see that. That's a return to a kind of a 19th and early 20th century model of American presidents who were unaccountable to the media which he ran against in large part.
