Gene Robinson: Obama’s ‘Probably’ Right He Would Have Won Against Trump

‘That’s a simplistic answer, but I think it’s a probably right one’

GEIST: "So, Gene Robinson, let’s start with you. It’s a fun parlor game. The 22nd Amendment prevents it from happening, obviously. But President Obama basically saying that if it were he and not Hillary Clinton running against Donald Trump, that he would have won a third term. Is he right?"
ROBINSON: "Okay, 22nd Amendment aside, I think, probably, yeah. He would have gotten marginally enough extra votes out of Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Detroit to win. You know, it’s easy. It’s just, you know, a relatively modest increase in the turnout in those three cities and the Democrat would have beaten Donald Trump. Now, that’s a simplistic answer, but I think it’s a probably right one."
