‘Morning Joe’: ‘Silly’ U.S. Sells $2B of Weapons to Taiwan But Trump Can’t Take a Call

‘You understand how silly that sounds to some Americans that we’ll sell Taiwan $2 billion worth of military equipment to defend against China but Donald Trump can’t take a phone’

SCARBOROUGH: “You understand how silly that sounds to some Americans that OK, we’re going to sell Taiwan $2 billion worth of military equipment to defend against China but Donald Trump can’t take a congratulatory phone call. Again, just explain to Americans, if you will --"
BRZEZINSKI: "What they're missing."
SCARBOROUGH: "-- what they’re missing. Because you know a guy in Scranton, Pennsylvania is going to be going ‘What the hell?'"
BRZEZINSKI: "What's the deal?"
SCARBOROUGH: "'This makes no sense.’ Explain -- explain to that person.”
HAASS: “The answer is it may sound silly.  And what this is is a game of symbols. And the understanding is that Taiwan doesn’t do certain things. It doesn’t become an independent country, for example. We -- they understand they can’t declare independence."
