West Virginia: Three Daycare Centers Close in Part Because of ObamaCare

Parents are also expressing frustration that they need to add their kids to waiting lists elsewhere

Three West Virginia daycare centers closing partly due to Obamacare (Capitol City Project)

The centers do not receive funding from the public and instead rely on fees charged to the families.
“Community education is self sufficient. We operate on the funds that we bring in,” Kanawha County Schools Executive Director of Elementary Education Bob Calhoun told WV Gazette. “I’m very disappointed. It’s not something you want to do. We’re taking the livelihood away from 40 people and causing distress for 120 families.”

As for the role of Obamacare in the closures, Calhoun stated, ”We would have to start offering an insurance to employees. Right now, [employees] are contracted. So we’d have to start offering benefits, either that or double staff and reduce their hours, and it’s just not something we’re able to do.”

Parents expressed frustration and may now need to add their kids to a waiting list elsewhere. Forty people will also lose their jobs.
