Tim Walz Defends Afghanistan Exit: ‘Exiting a Conflict Is Never Going to Be Good’

‘It was a messy situation’

EXCERPT:

WALZ: "Yeah, no, the point being on this was, is it was a messy situation, the situation with the Taliban and the things that Donald Trump led up to it. Exiting a conflict is never going to be good. That situation was horrific. There were Minnesotans on the ground that were providing aid to that. I think the biggest thing was, is an understanding that the way that that was prosecuted, the way that we tried to bring stability, was simply going to be incredibly difficult. So, I — yes, I served with Senator Cotton. I also know that a lot of his positions have been overly aggressive in terms of how the United States prosecutes a peaceful resolution. So, look, the Afghan withdrawal was tragic, but it was a longstanding situation that rolled over many, many months and over both terms of presidents."
