Carson: Immigrants Are Welcome as Long as They Embrace Our Culture

‘They must want to be Americans’

HEGSETH: “Well, Dr. Carson, last night there was a lot of discussion about immigration, a Muslim immigration. You talk all the time about political correctness and the poison that is political correctness. You talked about some of the answer to that be in a Teddy Roosevelt policy. You talked about that last night. What does that mean? What is a Teddy Roosevelt policy to immigration?”
CARSON: “Well, Teddy Roosevelt was very open to immigration. But you know, in the early 1900, you know, he said we are a nation of the immigrants, we cannot survive without immigrants. And everybody is welcome from any nation, any religion, any race, but they must want to be Americans. They must want to be inculcated into our culture, not bring some other thing with them. And that’s the problem with political correctness. The P.C. police say every culture and every ideology is OK and we can bring all of those things in here. That’s not true, if we want to continue the American way.”
KILMEADE: “All right. Dr. Ben Carson, nice job last night. I know that’s behind you. Look forward to Monday and I know you’re going to be working hard throughout the day. Dr. Carson, thanks so much.”
HEGSETH: “Thank you, doctor.”
SMITH: “Thank you.”
