Biden on 2016 Decision: ‘I Regret It Every Day’

‘I regret it every day, but it was the right decision for my family and for me’

GRANT: “Just on a side note because we’re speaking about the campaign trail, what are your thoughts on — on what you’ve seen and what you’ve heard in the tone that this presidential election has — has taken on the campaign trail?”
BIDEN: “Well, it’s — on the Democratic side, it’s what I expected. There’s real robust debate between Hillary and Bernie as there would have been if I had gotten in the race. There’s been no personal attacks that I’m aware of, or any consequence. There is — is not a bunch of serendipity out there. I will not mention them but I promise you I’ve spoken to three of the presidential nominee — potential nominees on the Republican side, who tell me, Joe, it’s crazy, this is absolutely crazy. And you know, the kinds of things that — that Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are saying are so inconsistent with — well, we will see what the elections says, but it is — it’s not been a illuminating campaign so far.”
GRANT: “Any regrets to not throwing your hat in the [race]”
BIDEN: “Sure I regret it every day, but it was the right decision for my family and for me and I plan on staying deeply involved in — it’s a  — we’ve got two good candidates.”
GRANT: “Our deepest condolences to you.”
BIDEN: “Thank you.”
GRANT: “Always.”
BIDEN: “Lot of people go through a lot — what I’ve been through a lot less help, but thank you.”
GRANT: “Thank you, Mr. vice president.”
BIDEN: “Thanks.”
