Molly Jong-Fast: Republican Book Bans ‘Scary,’ ‘Books Do Not Make You Gay’
‘People don’t like politics in their education’
EXCERPT:
JONG-FAST: “One race, I think they won one race, and probably a very red place. Look, people don’t like politics in their education. They want kids to learn. And what that looks like, means kids get to read books. And the idea of going back to book bans, it’s scary, and I think it really does galvanize voters. So many of these Republican issues were cultural war things that people weren’t even that interested in, they were sort of cooked up in heritage factories, things that they thought might scare people into voting. And the reality is, books don’t make you gay.”
