Santorum: Obama ‘Not Telling the Truth to the American Public’ on Iran

‘We have never heard the president talk about who Iran is and what their objective is and why they’re pursuing a nuclear weapon’

BARNICLE: “You said in the past that we have a leader who refuses to be truthful, the president; that we have a leader that refuses to be truthful with the American people about the threat we’re facing in the Middle East. What specifically is the president of the United States not being truthful about?”
SANTORUM: “Well, I'll just start with Iran. Iran is a radical theology that is fixated on bringing about the end of times to fulfill their eschatology. We have never heard the president talk about who Iran is and what their objective is, what they say to their own people and why they’re pursuing a nuclear weapon. None of that is being discussed. The same thing with ISIS. The fact that ISIS has established a caliphate. When have you ever heard the president talk about what the caliphate is, what their objective is, how would you actually defeat a caliphate if you recognize that? All of these things are ignored by the president as if if we don't talk about them, we somehow de-legitimize them. Just the opposite. By not confronts and telling the American public the truth about the nature of the enemy we confront, we in fact keep America in the dark and don’t have solid policies to actually confront the destruction of the caliphate which means that we have to take their land. Not giving a nuclear weapon to bunch of mullahs who want to bring about the end of the world. Those are things that are simply not telling the truth to the American public.”
GEIST: “Senator Sabtorum, it’s Willie Geist. You said the first thing ISIS wants is for the United States to invade Syria. You said that would play in their hand and that we should not put ground forces in there. A lot of people were critical of President Obama say that’s what he’s not doing, that it is going to take some ground forces there. If this is, in fact, World War III, as you say, why take that off the table?”
SANTORUM: “Well, two things. Number one, I said that we need to put more ground troops in Iraq and take that territory back that territory from ISIS in Iraq and we need to be much more directly supportive of the Kurds making sure they have adequate resources to fight the battle. We need to have a much heavier presence in Ambar where we can support Sunni Iraqis in taking back that land. I’m not going to be shy at all about attacking ISIS and taking back their land. My concern is about having a heavy American presence in Syria and bringing American troops into portions of Syria. There’s a particular town in Syria that again feeds into ISIS' sort of eschatology and where they attract people to their cause in the Islamic world and we don’t want to enter into that game. We need to be much more cautious in Syria.”
