Eugene Robinson: Trump ‘Plays the Race Card’ to Appeal to His Base

ROBINSON: "He plays the race card, obviously. He did it with Mexicans. He did it with Muslims and with African-Americans. That’s part of who Trump is. I don’t see what the purpose is of persisting with the birther stuff at this point for him even with his base. He’s got his base."
MATTHEWS: "There are a lot of public officials and public figures who spent their life covering a story that isn’t true. They just don’t want their friends and family to know they were bs’ing the whole time."
ROBINSON: "At some point —"
MATTHEWS: "He could have done it last night. He could have said I think he’s legitimate. That’s all he had so say."
ROBINSON: "He didn’t."
