Montage: Media Racing to Politicize Planned Parenthood Shooting

It's been less than 24 hours since police resolved Friday's standoff that left three dead outside a Colorado abortion facility, and so far very little is known about what motivated the killer. But that isn't stopping many in the media from politicizing the tragedy, pinning blame squarely on pro-life and pro-gun conservatives.

Even as these talking heads acknowledge the killer's motivation remains unknown, they have nonetheless reported anti-abortion activism inevitably lies at the heart of it.

Many are flatly declaring the shootings an act of terrorism.

MSNBC's Irin Carmon suggested Colorado Springs' heavy concentration of Christian pro-lifers is making the area more "polarized" and "stigmatized."

Terrorism analyst Malcolm Nance said the shootings are "absolutely" an act of terrorism -- and that, "ideologically" Islamic terrorists and anti-abortion activists are "almost the same."

Vanderbilt Professor Jonathan Metzl blamed Colorado's open-carry gun law.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) called the attack "domestic terrorism" and said the killer's weapon constituted a "weapon of mass destruction."

For his part, President Obama used the tragedy to hype his push for gun control.
