Sen. Kennedy on Growing Up in a Small Town in Louisiana: ‘We Really Didn’t Have a Town Drunk, Several People Had to Take Turns’

‘I cared about basketball and I cared about cheerleaders, and I wasn’t very good with either one’

TRANSCRIPT:

KENNEDY: “My name is John Kennedy. I‘m a United States senator, though I have tried to rise above it.

[Laughter]

I’m — I’m from a little town outside Baton Rouge called Zachary. Zachary was small. It was so small we didn’t — we really didn’t have a town drunk, several people had to take turns.

[Laughter]

I went to Zachary High School. I don’t know about you, but I loved high school. I loved it. I’d go back in a second. I cared about two things in high school: I cared about basketball and I cared about cheerleaders. And I wasn’t very good with either one. But I sure had fun trying.”
