Ted Cruz: ‘I Am Not Interested’ in Signing Demand Letter for Debates

‘I am happy to debate anywhere and anytime’

CRUZ: “This is not a cage match. And, you look at the questions — ‘Donald Trump, are you a comic-book villain?’ ‘Ben Carson, can you do math?’ ‘John Kasich, will you insult two people over here?’ ‘Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign?’ ‘Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen?’ How about talking about the substantive issues the people care about?” (Applause)

HEMMER: “So, that was a firing moment last week Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz arguably sparking this fight over the debates. The senator from Texas is my guest, now from Washington. Senator Ted Cruz, welcome back to ‘America’s Newsroom’.”

CRUZ: “Bill, it’s great to be with you. Good morning.”

HEMMER: “Thank you. Good to have you here. You won’t sign the letter, about debates. Why not?”

CRUZ: “Yeah. Look I’m not interested in signing any letters. I’m happy to have as many debates as we can. I’m happy to debate anywhere and anytime. And I don’t think we ought to have candidates complaining that we don’t want — we don’t want hard questions, we want to limit the number of debates. So, I’m not interested in being part of that. But I do think the question that I raised last week and that I’ve been raising for a number of months is, why are Republican primary debates moderated by liberal Democrats? Right now, we have liberal Democrats moderate the Democrats debates and liberal Democrats moderate the Republican debates. That doesn’t make any sense. I think we ought to have Republican primary debates moderated by people who will actually vote in a Republican primary.”
