Rep. Gaetz: ‘Outrage Isn’t the Most Responsible and Pensive Way to Write a Bill to Address a Problem’

‘I would observe that perhaps outrage isn’t the most responsible and pensive way to write a bill to address a problem’

EXCERPT:

GAETZ: “The chairman referenced Uvalde in the first moments of this hearing, but yet we're still deciphering key elements of the law enforcement response, of the physical plan, of points of intrusion. And it is not kind, and it is not compassionate, to tell people that you're doing something to help them, when in fact, you have no idea whether or not this legislation that you've fashioned would in fact do that. I would suggest that it's potentially cruel to tell people that they've inspired a response to a tragedy, when in fact, that response won't work. Who would want to be associated with such a thing? My colleagues asked the question, where's the outrage? I would observe that perhaps outrage isn't the most responsible and pensive way to write a bill to address a problem.”
