Sec. Granholm: War in Ukraine Isn’t the Only Thing Sending Shockwaves Through the Energy Sector, There Is Climate Change as Well

‘Clean energy transition is not just coming it is here’

EXCERPT:

GRANHOLM: “So the question for us all, I think, is: what else can we do in this fight? We are on war footing, we are in an emergency and we have to responsibly increase short-term supply where we can right now to stabilize the market and to minimize harm to American families, and that means releases from the strategic reserves across the world, like we’ve done. And that means you producing more right now, where and if you can. And I know that some of you are grappling with supply chain issues, and I hope your investors are saying these words to you as well. In this moment of crisis, we need more supply. And at the same time, that war in Ukraine isn’t the only thing that is sending shockwaves through the energy sector. We know, you know, we have got to still reckon with the impact of climate change. That clean energy transition is not just coming. It is here. And you all know that, because you’re wrestling with it obviously yourselves, your investors are demanding action in addition to financial discipline. Your customers are demanding climate action. Seventy percent of voting Americans support the clean energy transition. And I get it.”
