Dem Rep. Meeks Praises NYC Mayor Adams: ‘We’ve Got the Right Mayor at the Right Time’ to Fight Crime

MEEKS: “I think mayor Eric Adams has it right. I think that what we can do is we can have the appropriate law enforcement without them – without – and have justice and hold people accountable at the same time. My district, for example, we focus so much so on wanting and having an appropriate police department. We had another precinct being built in the district. But at the same time, it doesn’t mean that there has to be an abuse of police, and I think mayor adams said it correctly. Restarting his anti-crime unit and saying that he will hold those accountable if, in fact, you break the rules. So we can go and get safety in our communities without having overly aggressive policing that causes individuals to be randomly pulled over without any probable cause. It was done – you know, I’m a former prosecutor. It was done previously under mayor David dinkins and we can do it again in to regard. And I think that we’ve got the right mayor at the right time with the right message, the right knowledge to get that done. So I’m solidly behind the proposals that mayor Eric Adams has proposed.”
