Gov. McAuliffe Calls for Control in First Interview After Virginia Double Murder

‘This is why I’ve long advocated for background checks; I’m a gun owner, I’m a hunter, but you know what? I went through background checks myself in order to get it’

Virginia Governor Pushes Gun Control During Interview on Journalists’ Murders (Mediaite)

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe began pushing for stricter gun control in his first interview only hours after the shooting murder of two WDBJ reporters on live television.

McAuliffe announced in an interview with local radio station WTOP that police were in pursuit of the suspect and he would be arrested shortly. But he then pivoted to the issue of guns in America. “It goes back to what I’ve talked about for a long time: there are too many guns in the hands of people who should not have guns.”

“This is why I’ve long advocated for background checks,” he continued. “I’m a gun owner, I’m a hunter, but you know what? I went through background checks myself in order to get it.”
