Reps. Paul Ryan and Patty Murray Spearhead Budget Deal Agreement

‘Compromise in Washington is a breathe of fresh air’

ANCHOR: "There has been a bipartisan budget deal hammered out by GOP Congressman Paul Ryan and Patty Murray. It touches on all of the above. Dana Bash joins us now with what is in it and how it came about and I suppose the big question is whether it stands a snowball's chance of actually becoming law. Dana, tell us what is in this deal."
BASH: "It is modest but a start, as you said. Any time we talk about -- compromise in Washington is a breathe of fresh air frankly. Especially somebody who covers Congress who's not used to using the c word, compromise, often. It's two years and sets the budget levels for two years and what it does is it takes away some of those arbitrary or forced spending cuts and replaces them with different cuts. That is something that pleases some conservatives, for example, those who don't want arbitrary defense cuts and some liberals who don't want arbitrary cuts to social spending programs but then on the flip side, it makes some conservatives who want deficit reduction and want those force cut caps in place unhappy and some liberals also happy because they don't like the fact, as you eluded to, John, that unemployment benefits are not extended as part of the package."
