Matthew Dowd Invokes Holocaust Poem re: Texas Pro-Life Law: ‘First They Came for the Immigrants ...’

‘First they came for the immigrants, then they came for the people of color, and now they’ve come for women’

EXCERPT:

DOWD: "And when you watch this unfold, they are basically appeasing to only 5 percent of the country and 5 percent of this state to do this. Two-thirds of the state of Texas wants to retain Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. And as I was thinking this morning as I was thinking about this and all what's gone on in our country up until today. There’s a great famous poem, quote from a German pastor during the Nazi rule, and I paraphrase it. First they came for the immigrants, then they came for the people of color, and now they’ve come for women. And until we all understand that when these attacks on the constitutional rights of one part of our population affects all of us, we’re not going to get anything done in this. And so, to me, this is a complete example. Right now today, women occupy, what, 160 million, 170 million women in this country, there's 15 million women in Texas that now in Texas, they now have no other option other than to try to go out of state to actually practice a constitutional right they have.”
