CBS: Trump Gets Standing Ovation in Michigan

ROSE: “The same [Franklin Pierce-Boston Herald] poll shows Donald Trump is the top Republican candidate in New Hampshire. The billionaire developer is now five points ahead of Jeb Bush. Ohio Governor John Kasich is in third place. Another new poll shows Trump holding a lead in Iowa, with Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is in second place. Major Garrett is in Birch Run, Michigan, where he spoke to Trump after a rally on Tuesday. Major, good morning.”

GARRETT: “Good morning. The sign still reads sold out and Donald Trump did back the house here last night. You had to pay to get in, a $125 for the best seat, $25 for the rest, all the proceeds going to the local Republican Party. Trump remained high concept that means few details, but few in the capacity crowd of about 3,000 appeared to mind.”

TRUMP: “Let’s say it’s President Trump, ladies a gentlemen, president of the United States Donald J. Trump!”

GARRETT (voice-over): “The very thought thrill the capacity crowd in this small town outside of Saginaw, Michigan. Trump’s rambling speech, his first since the ratings shattering Fox debate last week hit familiar targets. China.”

TRUMP: “We owe china $1.4 trillion. … Their leaders are so much smarter than ours.”

GARRETT (voice-over): “Illegal immigration…”

TRUMP: “We have to build a wall. The wall –“ (Applause)

GARRETT (voice-over): “And former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.”

TRUMP: “I notice he's not doing very well in the polls.”

GARRETT (voice-over): “More than anything, Trump touched on a theme of turnaround artist for a country this audience seemed to believe needs one.”

TRUMP: “The American dream is dead, but I’m going to make it bigger and better and stronger than ever before. Okay?” (Applause)

GARRETT (voice-over): “Afterward, Trump told us nothing could stop him except fickle voters.”

TRUMP: “The only thing that can really drag me out, if my numbers drop down, I’m a realist. I don't see that happening.”
