HAAKE: "Yeah, Allison, it’s the end of an era up here on Capitol Hill. By the time senators return to work on Monday, what is left of the perimeter fencing that has surrounded this property since the aftermath of January 6 should be removed. U.S. Capitol police saying yesterday that the time had come to take down the remaining fencing here on Capitol hill. Now, the fencing had been scaled back a few months ago. What remains now really just encircles the Capitol building itself and the parks around it. A lot of folks up here on the Hill thought that perhaps that fencing would be removed prior to the 4th of July. The Capitol is a very popular place for folks to come and watch fireworks. Instead, it will be the week following that that fencing comes down. No, that doesn’t mean the security posture here goes entirely back to normal. In that same statement, the U.S. Capitol police said that they have increased security around the campus.”
