Halperin: Hillary Clinton Will Never Win an ‘Up-or-Down’ Referendum Vote

‘What she is counting on is what Barack Obama counted on … disqualifying whoever the Republicans nominate as unacceptable choice’

SCARBOROUGH: “I mean, the biggest problem is for her when you start having inspectors generals of the Intel committees and the State Department talking about the possibility of a mishandling of classified documents and you have America's most important general of the past 10, 15 years pleading the criminal charges for much, much less than that. It becomes a very serious issue. Scrubbing a home baked server, as Ron Fournier called it, is serious and I agree with Steve Rattner. I think the only way to get this behind her is to put everything on the table, say she screwed up, apologize and put herself at the mercy -- at something that Clinton's don't do of the American people. Because this is no way forward. This -- You look at her poll numbers. You look at her disapproval ratings. This cannot sustain itself over the next year.”
HALPERIN: “But let remember. The poll numbers we've been looking at in terms of her fav/unfav with the overall electorate, she is still doing very well with Democrats despite the threat from Bernie Sanders. And at the end, she’s never going to win a referendum up or down, do you want Hillary Clinton to be your next president. What she’s counting on is what Barack Obama counted on, what  George Bush counted on for election. Disqualifying whoever the Republicans nominate as an unacceptable choice.”
