Charlie Dent: As a Party of Limited Gov’t, GOP Shouldn’t Meddle with How Transgenders Should Live Their Lives

‘The government should not be entering into complex and difficult medical decisions’

EXCERPT:

DENT: "Yeah, I think — you know, good for Governor Hutchinson. He’s right. A party that espouses limited government should not be entering into these types of very complex and difficult medical decisions. Now, I had two Republican colleagues in the House who had transgender children. I don't want to mention their names, but these are difficult issues and I've talked with them about how they dealt with this issue as parents. And this is really not a place for Congress to meddle. These are difficult, complex issues. Nobody is trying to — you know, is being frivolous with their children when they're addressing these issues. These children have oftentimes psychological or psychiatric problems as a result of their condition, and so I think Hutchinson nailed it right. The party of limited government should be very careful about what it enters into. They need to move away from these cultural issues and get back to embracing the diversity of the country and speaking a message to them that they will support, whether it is on the economy or other issues."
