Eugene Robinson on Impeachment: We Can’t Move on, The Capitol Was Sacked for the First Time Since 1814

‘The country needs time to process this and needs this trial’

EXCERPT:

ROBINSON: “The Capitol was sacked for the first time since 1814. It was a horrific scene in which five people died, including a Capitol Police officer. We’ve never in our lifetime seen anything like this happen at the very seat, the very symbol of our democracy. And the motive was to stop the U.S. Congress from performing its constitutional duty to certify the electoral vote. So no, we can’t move on. Republican senators have decided that politically they would rather try to do so. But I believe, and certainly hope the country needs time to process this and needs this trial, frankly, to process what happened because it was simply horrific.”
