Fox News: Supreme Court Rules Against EPA on Power Plant Regulations

‘EPA calls today’s decision disappointing’

LEE: “We are going to start in Washington D.C., where we have a new ruling from the Supreme Court. Welcome to Happening Now everybody. I am Jenna Lee.”

SHAWN: “Hello Jenna and hello Everybody, I am Eric Shawn in for Jon Scott. The high court was wrapping up the session with a flurry of final decisions.”

LEE: “One of those decisions is a big victory for the energy industry. The justices ruling against the EPA. Shannon Bream is live at the Supreme Court with more, Shannon?”

BREAM: “It was a contentious and to the Supreme Court extremely gut, three decisions today, all of them 5- 4. Let’s start with that EPA decision was authored by Justice Scalia, he said basically, the agency cannot unload an expensive new rule regulating power plant emissions without factoring in the costs. Industry experts have said the compliance costs could be in the neighborhood of $10 billion. Well, bottom line, the court said EPA, can't fail to factor in those costs.”

GAZIANO: “I think Americans are beginning to realize the impact to that federal regulatory agencies have on their daily lives. And it is vitally important that the regulatory process be a rational one and consider the impact on people.”

BREAM: “The EPA calls the decision today, disappointing and says ‘…remains committed to ensuring that appropriate standards are in place to protect the public from the significant amount of toxic emissions from coal and oil-fired electric utilities and continue reducing the toxic pollution from these facilities.’”
