Kerry: Iran Deal Makes Israel Safer

‘Israel will actually gain a larger breathing space in terms of the breakout capacity of Iran, it’s just clear’

Kerry: Deal Makes Israel Safer (National Review)

Secretary of State John Kerry said emphatically that the deal reached with Iran early this morning makes Israel safer. Critics have blasted the agreement for its failure to require Iran to halt uranium enrichment (it is still allowed to the 3.5 percent level) or to dismantle existing centrifuges, but Kerry pushed back. ”Iran’s 20 percent Uranium will be destroyed, therefore they are safer,” he said of the Israelis. “Israel will actually gain a larger breathing space in terms of the breakout capacity of Iran, it’s just clear.”

Kerry went on to assure ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the administration will continue to press the Iranians to dismantle their centrifuges: “While we go through these next six months, we will be negotiating the dismantling, we will be negotiating the limitations.”
