British MEP Hannan: Obama’s Willingness to Throw Away Rules ‘Extraordinary’

‘It is extraordinary to see the president ... standing up and saying the rules don’t really suit me’

HANNAN: “I have to say it is extraordinary to see the president, if I understood him correctly just there, standing up and saying, well, the rules don't really suit me, they're getting in my way so maybe we should do it differently. The greatest gift in politics is the humility to understand that you're passing through institutions that are bigger than you are. And the moment you think you're bigger than the rules, then you've opened the door to what your Founders called arbitrary government, and it's not too strong a word.”
